Honestly the bigger brother of it (Grande Absente) has a better flavor profile straight. Having some diluted sugar cube definitely helps. I went to a place called Vom Fass, only place I've ever seen that had a multi-spigot pitcher, so you could do multiple glasses of absinthe at once, so I did try a couple different bottles.
Funny thing… I like star anise and fennel which have a flavor close to but not licorice. I HATE licorice. I love Absinthe. You don't taste licorice. Absinthe is a star anise flavored liqueur.

I used to mix this absinthe with Agavero tequila liqueur.
