Almost 1 year ago, during the first week of April, 2024, we packed up what was left in our home, after spending almost 2 years selling most of the rest of our stuff, took 6 giant suitcases, 3 carry on bags, 2 full backpacks, a dog carrier and a little dog, named Bella, to the airport and said goodbye to our prior life in the United States of American in search of a “better” life, in the south of France….a dream brought to life. In this video, we share our thoughts, the good, the bad, the ugly…our concerns, our frustrations, and our favorite parts of living here.

Hi! We are An and Jeff Scott, two happily retired septuagenarians from the USA, who had a dream. That dream was to retire in France. So, we sold most of our “stuff”, packed and shipped the rest, and with our bossy little Yorkie, Bella, said “goodbye” to the USA. In 2024, we moved from the sunny coast of southwest Florida to the sunny coast of the south of France, to enjoy our “golden years” and embrace the “joie de vivre” available to us, here in beautiful Nice, France.
Moving from the USA to a foreign country was no small “project”. Through our videos, we’ve been taking you through the Long Stay Visa process, the packing, the purging, the moving, searching for an apartment, creating a great Dossier, learning the way things are done administratively in France, and sharing the steps, talking about what we’ve learned and the ups and the downs.
And now, we continue to share our life, our new life, here in Nice, getting settled, adjusting to the “French” way of doing things, dealing with the French “red tape”, reveling in the beauty of the world around us…and all the while, making every wonderful day in Nice, the best day ever…

I’m so grateful for all your videos. I hope you will keep making them. I loved that you took the time to explain how you are doing one year later. It’s so sad what is happening in the US. Our government has been taken over by nazis and wannbe dictators. It’s despicable that the republicans, our supreme courts and dark twisted billionaires are trying to gut our systems. I’m so afraid about my SS and ashamed to the rest of the world. I’m glad you guys are finding solace and happiness in France. Maybe one day I’ll get there too. Thank you

Especially since you are in Nice, my favorite city in France. I visited Nice the first, but not last, time in 1993 on a Harly-trip through France and Italy (I’m German/Canadian).
My wife and I are considering doing what you did, retiring in Nice, and we appreciate your videos.
A personal word. We Canadians are sorry for the consequences Trump’s current Trade-Ware with Canada has afflicted on everyday American People. Hi, a very, very good way to learn a foreign language and to memorise the words, is to say the words, the sentences, and to do the action at the same time. For instance, if you say “I’m eating” “je mange”, and you do the action at the same time physically, even if it is not for real, the brain will work its way and memorise it. Like ballet dancers are doing for the music. The muscles, the all body memorise the music, even before the brain is able to do it.
And a language is like a music. Welcome to France.
What's about you, do you speack any other language than your own? France language is French, so go learn and make an effort or go back to Trump.
Duolingo can be fun, I’ve been using it for a while. It doesn’t make you fluent, but it does teach you a lot of words.

I share your concern about social security I am still in the states, and my sister and my mom get their social security 2 weeks before I do, and I always call them now to see if they received their benefits. And it is also a concern about all the weapons that people have access to here. That is why I had decided to move abroad, still in the US though still trying to get rid of stuff. And I have also been following you since you were getting ready to move to France.
The same in Portugal exchange the drive licence when I did returned from UK after 20 years living there ,. The drive licence was less simple than yours but did take 6 months and that was in 2018. And I taught the Portuguese bureaucracy was bad the French even worse
Hi Ann….quick question: when I renew my visa , I don't have a SS statement as I have my financial means not to collect yet so I live off my investments. … I'm waiting until i turn 67. I'm 62 now. I can just send my investment statements, correct? Btw….yes the Frenchnlove the " tan pis" attitude. I lived in Paris years ago…and when it's quitting time its quitting time.
