Did you know French fries aren’t actually French? 🍟
Fries were born in 17th-century Belgium, not France!
Belgians originally fried fish, but when rivers froze in winter, they started frying potatoes instead—creating fries!
But why do we call them “French” fries?
During World War I, American soldiers stationed in Belgium tasted fries. Hearing locals speak French, they mistakenly thought fries were French—and the name stuck!
Did you know fries have different names worldwide?
🇺🇸 USA: French Fries
🇬🇧 UK: Chips
🇫🇷🇩🇪 Pommes Frites (Germany & France)
🇳🇱 Netherlands: Patat
🇧🇪 Belgium: Frites (the original!)
So remember, fries aren’t French—they’re Belgian!
