To avoid the yacht sinking orcas in the Bay of Biscay we decided to take our blue water sailing yachts through mainland Europe via the French Inland Waterways (VNF). It was an adventure of a lifetime but it would turn out to be a lot harder than we expected.

In this, the 8th episode of our French inland waterways adventure, we RUN AGROUND, and have to work out how to get ourselves out!

  1. Nice video lads and thank you for the effort of making these! I just wanted to say I'm a bit concerned for your guys safety stepping (and jumping) off the boat every time while it is still moving in the lock or when docking.. Its not the safest practice.. and very high risk if you were to slip or… Getting crushed between the boat and quay or getting sucked under by the current or into your own prop. Especially the climbing up while holding a mooring line, with the boat still moving. Soo dangerous! Sorry I really don't want to be the party pooper, just don't want to see one of you get hurt. 😕<3 Be safe and all the best!

  2. Another bloody legendary video, you lad's always surprise me you are all bloody good at what you do, and nobody else is doing what you are doing. Keep it up.

  3. Come on boys. You're dragging the locks out a little bit now. This should have been one video for all the locks. Two videos at the most. Still giving you a thumbs up because I enjoy your stuff 👍🏻

  4. When I was in the merch, it was quite often when birds migrate, the weak ones use to end up on the deck. Usually sparrow looking birds, you certainly could their little hearts pounding away. Although we try to nature nurture them back to health. They usually end up as fish food😂

  5. 01:20 – it's possible (and likely) that something got sucked up against the outside thru-hull and stayed there due to suction, as soon as you stop the engine and move some it'll fall off and on your next go, presto, water again. Most likely culprits: big leafy green shite, or a plastic bag.

  6. I had my first glass of Sancerre in Sancerre on my cruise back in 1987 and it is still my favorite white. Nice job saving Jacques!

BTW, that large aqueduct at 13:25 is over the Allier, not the Loire.

  7. Nice scenery! Did You have to pay a fee for each lock? How many locks did You go through altogether?

  8. Nice work you re speaking a few French words with the locals. It is always greatly appreciated and shows respect.

When doing a lot of locks, from Marseille up the Rhone to Rhine and Danube and Budapest and the Black sea (230 ish locks in total) I used to tie cross beams across the bow and the pushpit, keeping the bow and the stern away from the walls. Also because walls are super dirty from mud. Great journey thanks for the documentary

  9. Great work : yeah you’ve just got to live with the low levels due to no rain…might be more common in future, we has similar worries in Canal du midi a few years ago. Really enjoy your teamwork , building your skills en route and insights! .. New Zealand awaits youse..
