Toasted Party Loaf—-Slice a Vienna loaf down to (but not through) bottom crust in thick slices. Spread cut surfaces with mixture of equal quantities of softened butter and French’s Mustard. Slip in slices of sweet onion and cheese. Bake in moderate oven (350* F.) 15 min.
From my May 1940 15 Cent womans True Story Magazine, I made myself some Vienna Loaf bread because my local grocery store doesn’t carry it. But it was simple, and it gave the sandwich an even more homemade bread taste to it. And for the equal quantities of softened butter and the mustard, I used a tablespoon each and went with that until I needed more for the cuts on the top of the loafs. It was a scrumptious lunch. They say party loaf, but I wasn’t sharing! Give this simple sandwich a try and let me know how this recipe from the past was for you.
