After finding himself in Edmond, Oklahoma, Chef Olivier Bouzerand is now a semifinalist for a prestigious culinary award.

Bouzerand, originally from Burgundy, France, opened Fait Maison, a restaurant dedicated to traditional French cuisine made entirely from scratch. The name itself, meaning “homemade” in English, reflects his commitment to quality and authenticity.

His culinary journey began at the age of six, learning from his mother and grandmother. Years later, a love story brought him to Oklahoma—Bouzerand met his now-wife while playing video games online and moved to the U.S. in 2017.

At Fait Maison, Bouzerand does things his way. He sources many of his ingredients from France, makes his own butter and bread, and ensures every dish is carefully crafted. He also embraces the French tradition of slow dining, where meals last for hours as guests savor each course.

Breaking away from clichés, Bouzerand’s menu focuses on refined French flavors rather than just onion soup or escargot. His attention to detail and dedication to French culinary culture have earned him a place as a semifinalist in the James Beard Awards’ “Best Chef Southwest” category—an honor that took him by surprise.

Watch as we step inside Fait Maison and hear Bouzerand’s story firsthand.
