Recipe: Easy, Cheesy French Onion Scone Plait
Ingredients:
1 packet of French Onion Soup mix
2 cups Self-Raising Flour (or substitute with: 2 cups plain flour, 2 tsp baking powder, ½ tsp baking soda, 1 tsp salt)
Small pinch of cayenne pepper
60 g butter, cut into pieces
1 cup (250 ml) milk
1 cup grated cheese
⅓ cup corn kernels

Instructions:
1. Preheat to 180°C (350°F) fan or 200°C (400°F) no fan.
2. In a bowl, combine the French Onion Soup mix, sifted Self-Raising Flour (or substitute), and cayenne pepper. Stir lightly.
3. Add butter pieces and rub into the flour using your fingertips, lifting your hands to aerate.
4. Pour in the milk and stir gently with a butter knife until just combined. The dough will be sticky.
5. Flour your workbench and turn out the dough. Form into a ball and divide into three equal pieces. Roll each into a 20 cm log.
6. Place the logs on a baking tray, pinch the top ends together, and plait loosely. Pinch the bottom ends to secure.
7. Combine grated cheese and corn kernels. Pile the mixture on top of the plait.
8. Bake for 30 minutes or until the loaf is golden and risen.
9. Let cool for 5 minutes, then transfer to a serving plate. Best served fresh and warm, but leftovers can be reheated the next day.

  1. Not a fan of corn? No worries! Swap it for thinly sliced onion, chopped parsley, bacon, bacon & onion, or just keep it cheesy with no add-ins. So many possibilities—make it your own! 😄
