  1. the thing about restaurants is the experience as well. you feel good when you leave a tip willingfully, you can even highly overtip by american standards, but being forced to tip is just disgusting. the beggary is way too strong of a turn off

  2. OMG I SWTG IM FROM CANADA AND ALWAYS WONDER WHAT THE PRICE WILL BE WHEN I WENT TO ENGLAND IT. WAS. HEAVEN. I DIDN’T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT TAX OR ANYTHING, JUST TIP OMG EUROPE IS THE BEST.

  3. This is the difference between TTC ( Toute Taxe Comprise, all taxes included) and HT (Hors Taxes, without taxes). 99% of the price tag in France are TTC.

  4. Out of curiosity, Is the credit card surcharge real?

In India, charging that fee by merchants has been made illegal by the central bank.

  5. Can you refuse to give tips in american when your european and don't want to pay more? Or pay by yourself with your card?

  6. Maybe if the french language didnt sound like a a garbage disposal with tuberculosis and maybe if french people weren't an absolute ass about every little thing.

  7. I will never go outside to eat with a group again. I'll just pay as if I am eating alone. The "Gratitude" fee is STOOPED and obligatory in a group.

  8. "I'm here to pay for my food, not your salary" -_- also, in my country it's illegal to add hidden fees. The price of an item/service always has to be displayed in its entirety.

  9. The way Americans buy things and then end up paying so much more is ridiculous. I’ve never been anywhere where the price isn’t as seen. And Americans think their country is better. I’d be scared financially in America.

  10. It is so obvious that you put the final price on any product – no hidden amounts – be they tips, fees, taxes or whatever. It is the law in many countries Have to say I disliked going to restaurants in the States because of that. Ironic given the US mantra on 'free markets' – which is fundamentally based on price transparency

  11. This is why the restaurant industry in North America is failing as people are tired of all the sneaky underhand crap, especially when you're expect to tip an addition 15% or more for terrible service.

  12. See as a chef myself I get why they include a service charge but it’s not ethical…. When I was in Atlanta recently everywhere had a service charge so what did I do? Not tip. I do not tip on a service charge even if I’ve received exceptional service.

  13. Where in America do they do any of those things??!
That was insane. Other than tax, which anyone past the third grade can account for.

  14. Do other countries do "tax exempt" for military and some other circumstances? I dont know for sure but maybe we've added the taxes on after so that people who are eligible for tax exemption can know the price before tax. Or just a big scam to make people think thry are spending less money than they actually are

  15. And literally nothing is stopping american business from doing what the rest of the world does, but american business people love trying to be as tricky and deceitful.
