I am a French water drinker and I sometimes come across other French people who do not understand my difference. Know that we are not all fanatic wine drinkers. By cons I am a fan of very tasty raw cheese. It would be criminal not to finish a meal without cheese. 😡😊😂
I was so against this as i love freezing cold water. However i travelled to central america and i was surprised its normal to have lukewarm water. I couldnt take ot anymore so i went and got some from the store when i came across some. So cold and delicios. Except. It hit my stomach hard and i had really bad stomach aches 😭 thats never happened before. Since i returned my stomach has been more delicate to drinking cold water. Will i switch to warm water ? No. Im going to drink cold and suffer in pain 😐
But how stubborn can you be to refuse a bit of wine if you have already stepped into the fondue. As a foreigner, first I refuse all kind of fondues racklettes and stuff that make me sick, and then i can freely drink water. But once in the fondue-affaire, you should play the game
What i dont like at French attitude it is to talk seriously to you that you have to donthis or that. No yolerance, no acception of difference. "C'est indispensable!"
She is absolutely right about fondue with beer or water. It forms a ball. My dad made this mistake years ago, despite being warned.. and he suffered after.

Ths sounds like my mother in law. She is constantly baffled by my desire to just drink plain water (as cold as possible) instead of the wine, beer, soda, and liquor she keeps for guests.
This is the kind of attitude that is typical not only for French but more generally non US cultures. In US it is more of a combination of customer is always right and current, industry sponsored, health fad (like for instance currying these water bottles around and drinking water all the time because some health celebrity guru of the day proclaimed it to be "good for you"). When you opt for water in US you get a glass of water from the tap that literally stinks of chlorine and tastes horrible. How is that healthy – I cannot fathom. And total lack of food culture. Whereas in other countries they do have food culture and it is not that they enforce it, they just find it crazy that someone would do things differently from them. When abroad I enjoy trying to do like Romans do so to speak. But yeah , there is this authoritative tone they take with you. In Sweden we wanted to split a dish (a party of three). The waitress literally said "you are not allowed to do that". Or, long time ago, a guy requested 2 glasses of Coca Cola when asked "what are we going to drink". The waitress made an eye roll, asked again and mockingly repeated after him "2 Coca colas". What I am driving at – they are not too shy to indicate that whatever you are doing is unsusual or downright faux pa by local standard. Like drinking Cappuccino in the afternoon. And yeah, eaing pasta, any fatty food and flushing it with cold water – not a great idea, she is right.
I was in Paris during a heat wave a few years ago. Air conditioning is rare there. I learned that ice water is too. it is pretty much impossible to find. It is much better to be in Paris when it is cold.
As someone who loves a wine. I asked what I asked for if I want water give me water. Someone might be an alcoholic or whatever. Thankfully Paris (personally) has been very accommodating 😅
I offended many Italians by ordering a glass of milk to drink with my pasta dinner. I’m Italian American lol I should have known better but I also just wanted what I wanted haha
