In this video, I’ll share our personal experiences with France’s national healthcare system, the doctors, the dentists, prescriptions… and I’ll answer the burning question many of you have about seeking and finding doctors who specialize in anti-aging and are as knowledgeable about bio-identical hormones as our doctors in the USA are. Join me for this very candid conversation.

Hi! We are An and Jeff Scott, two happily retired septuagenarians from the USA, who had a dream. That dream was to retire in France. So, we sold most of our “stuff”, packed and shipped the rest, and with our bossy little Yorkie, Bella, said “goodbye” to the USA. We moved from the sunny coast of southwest Florida to the sunny coast of the south of France, to enjoy our “golden years” and embrace the “joie de vivre” available to us, here in beautiful Nice, France.

Moving from the USA to a foreign country was no small “project”. Through our videos, we’ve been taking you through the Long Stay Visa process, the packing, the purging, the moving, searching for an apartment, creating a great Dossier, learning the way things are done administratively in France, and sharing the steps, talking about what we’ve learned and the ups and the downs.

And now, we continue to share our life, our new life, here in Nice, getting settled, adjusting to the “French” way of doing things, dealing with the French “red tape” and all the while, making every wonderful day in Nice, the best day ever…

  1. A very informative video. Thank you for the information. Please ask your doctor if the following statement is true as I would be interested. When women take testosterone, a portion of it naturally converts to estrogen in their bodies due to an enzyme called aromatase, meaning that while taking testosterone, a woman's estrogen levels can slightly increase; however, this does not mean they are "turning into estrogen" as the primary effect of testosterone remains androgenic (producing male-like characteristics) even in women.

  2. Thank you for all the wonderful information you share with us each week!
I recently learned that it is possible to 'pause' the Medicare Part B in lieu of cancelling it altogether. This way, there is no penalty if and when one decides to start it up again for any reason. Simply contact Medicare and tell them you want to pause it or un-pause it, whatever the case may be.

  3. Thank you so much for this in depth chat regarding health care. As I prepare to go to France, you provide me with the support I need to make this change. You are such a great resource for me and I appreciate your candid discussions of each topic.

  4. Thank you dear one. This is just what the doctor ordered. You must have read my mind 😘

  5. The pharmacists also learn about mushrooms and which are healthy and which are poisonous. Which is helpful if you like to forage.

  6. An, I’ve been following you and Jeff regularly since before you moved from Florida and I have thoroughly enjoyed your videos of your many escapades in Nice, Paris etc. You have a gift for explaining all the many things expatriates will need to know if planning a move to France. I spent three weeks in Nice and surrounding area a year ago and loved it! You are a lovely couple and I find joy watching you both (and Bella) living your best life and generously sharing it with us. Merci!

  7. An, hello from Seattle! Great video again! I am catching up on your videos finally. Two questions. Firstly, you have lovely outfit but it looks rather warm. Is it cool in your apartment? Why? Secondly, do you mind to share contact of the gynecologist doctor whom you saw when she was covering for anti-aging doctor? Thank you very much!

  8. Thank you very much An. I really appreciate you sharing about bio identical HRT bc I need to continue that when I arrive this year. It really improved my quality of life post hysterectomy. Can you share your doctor’s name? We chatted before on messenger.

  9. This was great information and I’ve subscribed to keep up with your content. Do you have any information on care for macular degeneration? I will need to find a specialist in France but just wondered if you knew anyone there who is dealing with that condition. Thanks so much.

  10. Thank you for this great video. Very informative about the medical and dental costs and your experience. Video was well paced and extremely helpful for those of us moving to France needing to continue Bhrt. Would love the name of your Anti Aging doctor. Looking forward to meeting you two later this Spring.

  11. Doctolib is great IF there is an office that will do initial visit appointment online! Impossible here for gp. A hurdle that has been a pain. But we're able to make appts for specialists online easily. Seen orthopedic surgeon and podiatrist with ease. GP not so easy. But out of pocket fees have been unbelievable, we feel like they are forgetting something! Most office visits are less than $50. And most amazing thing we learned was that ambulance rides are always free! Wow! So far we have been impressive.

  12. We visited Nice in November…kept our eyes peeled for you, but didn’t see you 😜Watch it on the estrogen…a friend at Johns Hopkins says that they are finally doing research on estrogen in post-menopausal women….not yet published, but she says ‘there are. Estrogen receptors everywhere in womens’ bodies….and that taking estrogen out is the equivalent of taking oil out of a car….Staying on helps prevent dementia, osteoporosis, circulatory issues (stroke/cardiac issues). Is the doctor trying to ‘wean’ your husband off of testosterone? A little sex bias, which has been the problem in women’s health care historically.

  13. An, this information is so valuable. Thank you so much for sharing it with us. It really gives me a sense of calm knowing that the health system in France is just as good or maybe even better than here in the US since we are considering retiring there in the future. We are doing a scouting trip there in May in Paris, Nice, and Aix-en-Provence, focusing on the latter two.

  14. Thanks for the video. It was very informative. My primary doc visit would cost about $250 for less than 1/2 hour if I go for anything other than my annual exam. My insurance covers a small portion, maybe 20%

So, I save up everything and make a list of concerns for the annual exam. Also, I have to pay abt $300 for any regular bloodwork (cholesterol, etc) my doc orders during my annual exam. I’m considering skipping the bloodwork becuz I feel pretty good and it makes me angry that the ins. won’t even cover bloodwork for my annual exam

  15. Thanks for a very informative video. I’m so glad you and Jeff are truly thriving in your Golden Years.

  16. Thank you for so much excellent information An. You’ve given me a lot to consider that I wouldn’t have done on my own. You’re a trailblazer and I’m very grateful ☺️
