  1. Thank you for your video & insight/tips… I am working on my stages as I write this, so very helpful! I am preferring private rooms or small hotels compared to the public albergues (I am 72 and prefer a little more privacy/quiet)… Any thoughts/insights there? Thank you again… And if you come across the name of your guide book, that would be greatly appreciated (you are right – some are so boring, and I want to make certain I don’t miss something of interest because I was bored with the reading!)

  2. Thanks for the tips. We have walked the Portuguese Camino in July 2023 – hardly saw a pilgrim until the last few days.
We are preparing for Camino Francés 2026. Can you list any villages you thought were worth spending a rest day in? Thanks 🙏

  3. Hi Melanie, great tips. Youre so right on how quick it goes especially post Burgos. The only thing i wished id done a little more of was booking albergues with social meals. The drinking the first 2 weeks was a bit silly so decided to cut back for the next 3 weeks. I loved how open everyone was on the walk talking about their personal issues and why theyre doing the camino then listening to your issues. An amazing journey which i would recommend to anyone. Regards Steve, UK.

  4. For a good guide book with maps, list of albuergues, historic notes (not all ) check out Miam Miam Dodo.
Be warned if walking from St Jean Pied de Port to Roncesvalles, it only lists 1 albuergue, when in fact there are 3.
A good app for your phone is CaminoNinja.
    Buen camino.

  5. Did the Francis last July from SJPP to Santiago. Only got lost once when I missed the arrow so I had to walk a little longer one day. Some small stores are open during Siesta, but not always. Be prepared with your food and drinks before hand to avoid being really HUNGRY AND HAVING TO WAIT until well after 5pm. Dinner hour is also later in Spain and be sure to try the Pilgrams Menu a few times. So much to eat and generally very good food for between 10-15 euros. I want to go back and get to Finesterre. Buen Caminio.

  6. It’s like a roll of toilet paper. A new one feels like it’s going to last forever but they don’t and towards the end it spins faster and faster till it’s done.

  7. you don't have to walk those long miles each day, mostly… the farthest you need to be able to walk is 17km

  8. Great overview ! Plan on staring the Camino Francés in SJPD the end of April, 2025 and have been hiking on trails and walking roads everyday with my backpack. Using a company who will take my bag and preschedule hotel rooms. Plan to take it slow and not afraid to take public transport during the long segments. Found the Buen Camino app that should help with history along the way. Love the idea of staying at Cape Finesterre to end the journey. Thank you for these great tips !

  9. Apparently, the luggage service is only available for people staying in private albergues. According to the Camino forum, the municipal albergues won't accept them.
The Camino de Santiago forum is really useful to read for first timers of each of the many different routes.

  10. Transfer of baggage and public transport is cheating. Ofc if ya r old or health problems, then yes. Otherwise its just a tourism

  11. Attn: UL experienced Backcountry hikers. Massive tenting opps. Alburges serve a purpose, that's it. Buen Camino

  12. Great reminder about my Camino in 2015 and tips for my goal to do the Camino again in 2025 or 2026. I will keep your YouTube/website in mind as I get closer. Tips I have is: 1 – Break In Your Shoes (use good hiking store if possible) and 2 – Test out backpacks with a good hiking store before you go. I did both of these with a good, local hiking store and it was a HUGE plus. The shoes were perfect and backpack worked great!!!

    Buen Camino!!!!
