(8 Oct 1973) RR7340B FRENCH WINE: A BUMPER HARVEST
Throughout France’s vineyards, paniers are bursting
and trucks overflowing with well-matured grapes. It is
a bumper crop, and thanks to a long, sunny summer,
a vintage year as well. In some places, like Champagne,
1973 will be a a year of exceptional quality. In this
report we look at how the harvest is progressing in
Champagne and around Bordeaux (still reeling from
the great claret scandal uncovered a few months ago)
and discuss whether prices will stabilize or continue
their rapid increase of the last few years.
