My name is Jay Swanson – I’m an American writer living in Paris on an artist visa and hoping to make the city of light my home base – at least for the foreseeable future. I write science-fiction and fantasy, vlog daily, and love pizza a little too much.

FAQ:
How long have you lived in France? On and off for over two years.

What do you miss most about ho- NACHOS

You’re always talking about living on some ship. WHAT SHIP? – I made a “Draw My Life” video that explains a lot here: https://youtu.be/-MrvL37jTKM

Where are you from originally? – Pullman, Washington – a small university/agricultural town near Idaho (and yes, the potatoes are amazing).

What do you film with? – I currently film almost exclusively with my Samsung Galaxy S8: http://amzn.to/2lPKSpZ

How do you get those shots where you’re walking or running? – A Joby Gorillapod for smartphones, like this: http://amzn.to/2sXNIL3

You drop your phone a lot, how does it survive? – THIS CASE IS AMAZING: http://amzn.to/2hoxgTA (Galaxy S7) – http://amzn.to/2Dt08Bu (Galaxy S8) – http://amzn.to/2FxVliP (iPhone)

What do you edit with? – Adobe Premiere – it’s pretty much all I’ve ever used since high school.

Aren’t you ever freaked out by leaving your camera behind to film yourself? – Yep. But not too badly – I tend to be careful when I do.

Why are you living in #Paris? – Because I’ve always wanted to; I feel at home here: https://youtu.be/4Vivf6MqMxQ

But what are you doing there? – Living it up! https://youtu.be/ZW2RP–DO8Y

Do you speak French? Oui. https://youtu.be/va1QjaHgij8

You talk a lot about the books you’re working on, what are they about? – They’re sci-fi (and fantasy) and I’ve got a decent pitch for you here: https://youtu.be/W2bKt4_Tp4E

Do you make money off YouTube? – Ha, no. I wish. It took me over 500 videos to make my first $100 off adsense. I think it will slowly change, but VERY slowly.

I really enjoy your videos, how can I support you? – The easiest and best way to support me is through Patreon, where you can pitch in as little as $1/mo to help me make better videos: http://patreon.com/jayswanson

I don’t trust this Patreon thing – what’s your PayPal? – Here’s a handy link! https://www.paypal.me/jayswanson

I like PayPal in pink! – Here’s my ko-fi if that’s your thing (and coffee is your game): https://ko-fi.com/jayswanson

But I want to send you something tangible! – I do have a wishlist on Amazon, though it’s a bit complicated with the international shipping situation. This is the US one: http://amzn.to/2ykS9Ux

And here’s the French one: http://bit.ly/JaysFrenchWishList

Can I come stay with you in Paris? – Have you seen my apartment? It’s too small for me as it is! https://youtu.be/6t2qj3rdyX8

OK, but how do I use the Metro when I’m there? – I made a handy video for you: https://youtu.be/T0YS5si8bJs

  1. Burgundy is by far my favorite wine region for both their red and white. Would you suggest a trip to France solely to visit the area?

  2. Jay, I absolutely loved your saga as a vendangeur. So the white grapes were Chardonnay. What variety were the red grapes? Is everything sold under the label Coteaux Margot?

  3. The music in this video was very loud as compared to your voice! I continuously had to raise the volume for the vocals and reduce the volume for the music. Please try to balance the sound level in the next video. Keep up the good work! Thanks.

  4. Love that you seem to be taking free time during the day/evening to get some editing done so it's not late at night for the entire vlog every night.

  5. I wonder if the Vinyard owners ever thought of charging American tourists the opportunity of harvesting grapes in Burgundy.. which they would gladly pay to do for the experience .. this would be a case of foreign workers “paying” the Vintners to work their fields .. LOL

  6. What a great experience. I'm surprised that they paid you, but it's a business vineyard. I hope the guys with the containers on their backs got double pay. You've made a dent in the blue wall!!

  7. Very interesting adventure! There’s a children’s song called “plantons la vigne” which goes through each step of the grape to bottle process.

  8. The food you were served this weekend looked delicious! I’m assuming there was kitchen staff to prepare. Miam miam 😋

  9. Wow. The last two blogs were amazingly beautiful. Wonderful work! What a great opportunity for you. Thank you for sharing so beautifully.

  10. I have really enjoyed these last two videos. Very romantic. The country side of France is picturesque. A lot of travel videos tend to center on the cities of many countries, but the best experiences are often found in the country side. Hopefully you will be in France a year from now, so I can come to that farm with you.

  11. A really cool weekend, hard work and all! The food looked scrumptious at every meal, and the companionship and camaraderie seemed really awesome. Also, great aerial shots! I want to do that!

  12. Those golden hour shots are spot on. (Sadly my comments are delayed because I don’t always watch on my laptop or iPhone.)
Looks like you got the hang of knowing where to cut the grapes on day 2. You look so happy and satisfied by the end of the day. Thanks again for sharing this new windows into how locals you know live life and how you are living life abroad.

  13. Excellent use of the drone- great footage. I imagine this kind of workout is a bit different than jogging.

  14. So now I'm watching your videos like its a reality show, must go back to the first ones to get the history. I was in the Us then moved to Switzerland for 4 years and back. Interestingly I never watched European vlogs while I lived there! Cool to watch.

  15. Would you mind sending me information on how you found this opportunity ? I'm living in Belgium right now, trying to find a job in picking
