What a gem!
The Palace of Versailles with a garden in the foreground.
The original residence was primarily a hunting lodge and private retreat for Louis XIII (reigned 1610–43) and his family. In 1624 the king entrusted Jacques Lemercier with the construction of a château on the site. Its walls are preserved today as the exterior facade overlooking the Marble Court.
Palace of Versailles
Palace of VersaillesPalace of Versailles, Versailles, France, designated a World Heritage site in 1979.
Under the guidance of Louis XIV (reigned 1643–1715), the residence was transformed (1661–1710) into an immense and extravagant complex surrounded by stylized French and English gardens. Every detail of its construction was intended to glorify the king. The additions were designed by such renowned architects as Jules Hardouin-Mansart, Robert de Cotte, and Louis Le Vau. Charles Le Brun oversaw the interior decoration. Landscape artist André Le Nôtre created symmetrical French gardens that included ornate fountains with “magically” still water, expressing the power of humanity—and, specifically, the king—over nature.
Perhaps the most-famous room in the palace is the Hall of Mirrors (1678–89). The gallery extends more than 230 feet (70 meters) and is characterized by 17 wide arcaded mirrors opposite 17 windows that overlook the gardens below. Glass chandeliers adorn the arched, ornately painted ceiling, upon which Le Brun depicted a series of 30 scenes glorifying the early years of the reign of Louis XIV. Gilded statues and reliefs border its marble walls. The hall is flanked on opposite ends by the equally striking Salon of Peace and Salon of War.

Beautiful video! I love the music and all the slow video of Versailles. The draperies are beautiful. The opulence is hard to believe.
Howdy, It was built by King Louis XlV. Never been to France and it's not high on my travel list. Must be a family that came from Italy. Do they have Italian wine there? Gelato is very good. My wife wanted me to get her an ice cream cone in a store at Quebec City. The clerk wouldn't serve me unless I spoke French which I don't do. I ended up getting my wife Gelato because the gelato place was next to the rude French.
Hope she didn't sign any treaties to stay over there in France and is coming back to America
I love Kelly there! He's the 'everyman American'
She's in South Carolina? I can't keep up with her
I’m your neighbor. I live in West Haven and work in Shelton. We are going to Paris and Normandy in June and I loved seeing your Paris vlogs.
I hope our paths cross someday.
We love Vegas and hope to get to Atlantic City soon ❤️
Keep the positive vibes coming 👍🏻
The palace was so bright and airy in your video that I was surprised by how beautiful it was. I've seen pictures of various rooms but you brought out the reality of what it must have been like to live there. Considering the weather when you and your family went to the gardens it was a special treat for the natural lighting to illuminate all the artwork and furniture so well. As for not decorating for Christmas there I thought maybe the Royals back then celebrated Christmas in another palace? Either that or they refrained from greenery and fabrics that we now associate with Christmas? We love ice cream at Christmas time ❤
The Palace of Versailles is absolutely beautiful, breathtaking and amazing architecture. The inside is incredible but I was a little disappointed that there were no pictures or artwork from the Treaty of Versailles of 1919. Amazing video Jennifer 😊
