Hi! We are An and Jeff Scott, two happily retired septuagenarians from the USA, who had a dream. That dream was to retire in France. So, we sold most of our “stuff”, packed and shipped the rest, and with our bossy little Yorkie, Bella, said “goodbye” to the USA. We moved from the sunny coast of southwest Florida to the sunny coast of the south of France, to enjoy our “golden years” and embrace the “joie de vivre” available to us, here in beautiful Nice, France.

Moving from the USA to a foreign country was no small “project”. Through our videos, we’ve been taking you through the Long Stay Visa process, the packing, the purging, the moving, searching for an apartment, creating a great Dossier, learning the way things are done administratively in France, and sharing the steps, talking about what we’ve learned and the ups and the downs.

And now, we continue to share our life, our new life, here in Nice, getting settled, adjusting to the “French” way of doing things, dealing with the French “red tape” and all the while, making every wonderful day in Nice, the best day ever…

  1. Hi guys. I am located between the two of you, in the northern part of the Dordogne. Our towns are decorated with street lights that are somewhat restrained but designed really well. Very very few houses have lights outside. We strung white lights on our terrace the first year we had the house but now only have wreaths on the front door and the chapel tower. My favourite thing is that we now have 2 Christmas trees, a smaller one in the ancienne cuisine (which has balsam fragrance) and a somewhat larger one in the salon. When I was little we always had coloured lights on our tree so even though my DH prefers white, he has agreed to the festiveness (I think I made up that word!) of colored lights. Our grocery stores are only open til 12:30 on Sundays and most stores, including Leclerc, are closed too. Good for you An to light your terrace – you may start a trend in your Nice neighbourhood. Bonne année à vous!

  2. God knows what’s in your heart. I always do the same for Steve. This was such a precious moment it made me cry.

  3. I wish you healthy and happy and prosperous new year for you and your family .
    🥳🥳🥳

  4. A VERY HAPPY AND HEALTHY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL!!!!
I WILL BE JOINING YOU WHEN I MOVE TO PARIS TO JOIN MY PARISIAN FIANCE, AND BEGIN MY NEW LIFE THERE.
MAY GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS, AND LOTS OF PETS FOR BELLA!!!!

  5. This video hits me hard. You drove by Denfert-Rochereau = high school memories. Then, Quartier latin = college years. I do remember that French people are not so much about decorations. As long as they have companies, family, and food, all is good.

  6. An you look so darling and festive! Thank you for showing Notre Dame de Paris. The last time I visited was December 2018. It looks so beautiful inside!. Please don't get a fake tree!🤣When we visited every place in France( EXCEPT Nice and Fontainebleau), in 2018, we thought all the towns and streets were beautifully decorated for Christmas. So glad you guys get to experience all the beauties of France.

  7. Loved the mass at Notre Dame – I'm glad you got to go in. (I was worried you were going to get up to the front of the line & not be able to go in).. Great to see you & Janice, Bella & Max (& Jeff too!). Happy New Year everyone!

  8. It's not that the French don't have the money to light their homes up like a drug store in Brooklyn.
    It's just that they think it's tacky.🤷‍♂️
