  1. SLAM CUTTER – ANECDOTAL
When I make Jambalaya for the family, it is in large batches. I have a larger square-shaped 'chipper', similar to the one you have. And while it cuts chips perfectly, albeit not larger potatoes, it is perfect for cubing the 'holy Trinity' (Cajun mirepoix), having to just cut slices of pepper and onion that will fit into the slicer, as well as halfling the celery to dice them all up. In addition, there is a rather large well for the trinity to fall into, making it easy to cut everything together.

The model I have also allows you to cut julienne, with an even smaller cutting insert. It is dual purpose built, but I use it mostly for mirepoix and trinity…saves me a lot of dicing time.

  2. Most of the products people think is unnecessary are perfect for disabled people. Like this one if you have arthritis or are an amputee.

  3. These things are excellent for the young or elderly, but only when they’re made well. I’ve got a steel fry slicer that was made in the 80’s, it still works like new.

  4. They’re good for disabled people who don’t have the dexterity to use a knife
And you just don’t use potatoes that are clearly too big for it

  5. Get a old Veg-a -magic cir 1970's made in the USA and it does more than that once time use piece of plastic.
I use one for caning for close to 20 years and the blades stay sharp for years.
    HAPPY NEW YEAR!

  6. Wow, that really is a “P.O.S.“ And therefore, I give it a thumbs down, but not for the creator – definitely the inventor!

  7. That thing is a unitasker. It only does one thing.
I'm with Alton Brown: never buy a unitasker. Want chips? Get out a knife.

  8. I've had the "single use" one for over a year and use it pretty regularly. Never had any issues with it, hasn't fallen apart, and I don't have to smack the shit out of it when doing bigger potatoes. Idk what was wrong with the one in the video or if it was used incorrectly, but still, don't believe everything you see online.

  9. Things like this, though maybe a better model, are good for people with athritic, weak or unstable/shaky hands.

  10. There is one single use tool that you might find useful:
    it's called "the Potato Peeler"…
    😉😁

  11. Alright, chef, but not all of us have the knife skills to cut good fries. Mind you, I would still probably get a better 1 than that.

  12. There's a reason why the slicers and dicers we used in all the kitchens I worked in were made of solid steel, and got their blades replaced regularly.

  13. We had something similar to that in a restaurant I worked in, but it was made of pretty much solid steel. In the context of making a restaurant-rush level of chips this is a great idea, but maybe not so much in a domestic setting unless you’re making a months supply at a time lol

  14. They also make mandoline slicer blades which seperate out the potato to give you fries

  15. I picked one up from an op shop for a couple dollars and only use it for dicing my onions really quick. Works fine and less tears.
