Makes me thankful to have a wood stove wherein I can throw one last big log on the fire before bed, pull the damper, close the door, and let it burn for a good half the night, which really helps keep the house warm in the winter. Having to fully extinguish the fire every night would make for absolutely freezing mornings of getting a new fire going in a cold stove. Also automatic space heaters and centralized heat and AC are total witchcraft compared to what our ancestors had to deal with.
King James father was French. His mother was Scottish and his wife, Anne was the Queen of Germany. Together they created modern English, wrote KJV and Shakespeare.
I like learning the origins of words and linguistics history. Thank you for making what’s old new again and reminding us that preserving history is IMPORTANT!
I was just wondering to myself what couvrir and feu would have sounded like in 15th century France, but then my brain finally started working and i realized it would depend on where.

Just the other day I learned that, because of the fire concern, they had Banal (communal) ovens that did everyone's baking.
Covered fires think they used asbestos blankets
My dad used to say I was a complete failure all the time. He called me “Fasco” but I didn’t know he meant “Fiasco” until now.
If I knew he spelled it wrong, I would’ve made fun of him all them years instead.

Very cool
