  1. Another excellent and insightful overview. In watching it I realized that I've stayed in most of those areas over the 57 years that I've been going to Paris. I tend to prefer the 4th, the Marais. It strikes an excellent balance. In the past few years we've stayed in the 17th, which has a wonderful neighborhood feel but, as you say, is a bit far from things. But no matter — we would just go around other areas during the day, and enjoy the peace and quiet of the 17th at night. We prefer to rent apartments rather than hotels. That allows us to shop in the local markets and cook dinners in the apartment A leisurely apéritif at a café downstairs, followed by a simple but wonderful dinner 'at home.' That feels truly authentic.

  2. The Victoria Palace Hotel, 6 Rue Blaise Desgoffe, is our favorite hotel. Beautiful, clean and EXCELLENT staff make it so special. ❤👌

  3. In reality, other than for one's first visit to Paris, where it would be nice to stay in a central and iconic area, it doesn't really matter where you stay on subsequent or extended visits, unless you're rich, because Paris isn't that large compared to say NYC or London, has an excellent public transit system, there are few truly must avoid areas, and is a very walkable city.

On my first visit to Paris as an adult (my parents took me when I was 5, which I still fondly remember, but no idea where we stayed), I stayed about as central as it gets, right around the corner from the Place Vendome in the now defunct Hotel de France et Choiseul, but on subsequent visits I stayed further out, and was perfectly fine with it, and even preferred it in some ways beyond saving money.

Save your money for food, attractions and purchases.

  4. Great selection of pros and cons. I think my employer's employee association did an excellent job by booking our group of 150 people in the Ibis in the15th, with the Sunday market on walking distance. The 6th and 7th were on walking/ cycling distance.

  5. Back in the early 80s we would stay in hotels ranging between 6FF & 12FF. The SdB was down the hall but so cheap and not a problem 🙂 1FF=$0.20 Sort of like the old Volkswagen ad… 4 tires just like a Rolls Royce, etc. Later on we lived in the 16th and still had a good time. Happy holidays.

  6. It would have been helpful to have the names of the restaurants spelled out on the screen. I recognized a few, but most not so.

  7. You pronounce the french names in the american fashion so that the audience understand or you still have to make huge progress in the french language ?

  8. I just stayed in the 6th at Hotel Recaimer. Safe, clean, great service & close to Bon Marche.

  9. We just stayed in the 5th and enjoyed the location. The apt we were in was located directly between 2 metro stations, so easy to get wherever we were going and only a very short walk to the river near Jardin des Plants and the spots to pick up the Batobus or evening dinner cruise (we tried booking the dinner cruise recommended by Les Frenchies, but availability was too tough to find–we ended up on Diamant and loved it and the fact that we could board in our neighborhood). One thing I would say about the 5th, make sure you're not toooooo close to the hospital on Bd de l'Hopital, you'll hear a lot of ambulance sirens all day long if so.

  10. Thanks for the recommendations. Have you two ever tried a French Michelin-starred restaurant you recommend based on your dining there? I know they can be pricey, but I’m just wondering if there are any you think are worth the money.

  11. I think you could have talked about the 15th that has nice accommodations and you can have a view of the Eiffel Tower. Especially the MottePiquet and Sèvres Lecourbe areas that are close to many monuments like the Invalides and Ecole Militaire and Champs de Mars. You have also the Beaugrenelle area that is a very vibrant shopping area. Sevre Lecourbe area has very good connection to metro lines 12, 6, 10 and many bus lines. It is not tour far from Le Bon Marché in the 6th.

  12. Before I clicked to watch this video, I already said to myself that Le Marais should be there. I love this unpretentious neighborhood.

  13. We just stayed on the edge of the Marais district in the Bastille area 1/2 block from the foot bridge over the canal! It turned out to be a great area to stay, close enough to metro and attractions but also quiet at night! We had an awesome week with a lot of thanks to Les Frenchies for a lot of their guidance from their video's!

  14. I rented a flat in the Marais area for next year. I wish their public transport was tap and go like in London. And one must watch out for fake taxis at Gare du Nord. I was recently scammed by one

  15. Great summary. We stayed in the 9th at the Le Grande for our first Paris visit and loved the location and our hotel. We like to try new things so this guide will be of great help for our next Paris trip. Cheers!!

  16. No.Way. I have been watching your videos for months to prepare for my trip to Paris, tonight is my last night here and just for the heck of it I decided to click on this video, only to see you filmed on the street right outside the window of the place I’m staying. Crazy!

  17. Please pronounce le Marais correctly… it will be more helpful for those traveling to Paris. No French person is going to understand why you’re looking for the marée in the middle of Paris 😂

  18. Your videos are incredibly helpful for travelers! But please pronounce le Marais correctly… it will be more helpful for those traveling to Paris. No French person is going to understand why you’re looking for the marée in the middle of Paris 😂

  19. Your suggestions were on the pricy side. We have enjoyed several places in the 12th, especially Hotel du Printemps. For longer stays with a kitchen we have stayed at the Citedines Aparthotel Bastille-Gare de Lyon. Excellent metro and bus connections from 12th to all of Paris.

  20. Thank you both once more for a great video. Could you please let me know the name of the restaurant in Montparnasse which has the view of the city. I couldn't quite make out the name of it. Merci beaucoup, Sharon and Tim (Australia)

  21. The first time my wife and I were in Paris, we stayed in the 2nd.. It was enjoyable, but we really went out at night.
But our second time in Paris, we stayed in the 9th, safe day or night, spectacular location, music, cafés, and a short walk to major attractions..
A third time in Paris, we stayed in the night again, and traveled to the 3rd & 4th to listen to jazz

  22. Sometimes it is as if you read my mind, lol. We were just talking about where to stay during dinner last night. Thank you for this, as always you provide such great information in a clear and understandable way.
