One of your best videos! Educational but very entertaining. 👍🏻👏🏻😂
"sold racist civil war memorabilia…" 😂😂😂 Kenji's on one today.
In India, French Toast is Bombay Toast, but there's some minor differences in who makes them.
Hey Kenji, I just want to say, please keep just doing you.
I commented semi-tongue-in-cheek a few weeks ago about you looking really fit, and you responded that you were in fact working out. Since then I’ve seen the alcohol detox post and I’m really proud to see you going through a public self-improvement kick. I don’t want to ramble on, but you’re making a visible difference to yourself and to the greater public. Plus the humour in this video was on-point; off the cuff, genuine humour that had me quietly chuckling away throughout the video. All whilst delivering top-quality, somewhat-objective cooking content. And I’ve never mentioned it but the dedication to gender diversity at the end of each and every video is exemplary.
You are a top-shelf human and I appreciate you tremendously.
Kenji must’ve stopped by the antique shops in Snohomish to get that pan
I never understood why in America, french toast is a sweet dish. Here in Czechia, we make it a savoury dish, you soak the bread in just egg (or maybe a little bit of milk), and then after frying you add things like mustard or ketchup, some cheese, a slice of tomato or pickle, or maybe a bit of raw onion.
French toast is all personal preference, but I like an overnight fresh challah soak. It practically disintegrates in the egg milk, but when you cook it, the egg binds together and causes it to reform. Great if you want max custard and min bread flavor /texture
I've seen a lot of recipes that call for a much longer soak for the stale bread. I'd bet that if you aren't going to soak it for more than say a few minutes, fresh is best, but if you plan on soaking the bread in the custard for a few minutes or longer, then either the stale or dry bread would be better. I think it'd be interesting to see a comparison between fresh bread + short (less than a minute) soak, and stale bread + much longer soak.
On a road trip down south, pulled off at a touristy looking place off of I-75 for a bag of Vidalia onions, and saw an alarming amount of Civil War "memorabilia" like racist jokebooks and tea towels. The onions were great, but it was a really unsettling experience.
In Germany we call this Armer Ritter (poor knight in English) and I always loved it as a kid. Def gonna make some over the holiday!
I know you've made some big, difficult changes lately, which may be the underlying cause of all this giddiness, but whatever it is with the jokes, the painted nails, and the festive apron, I love it! Also, I'm making this Christmas morning for the granddaughters. Thank you so much, sir!
In Japan I had a French toast that was using a small baguette if I remember right. Soaked thoroughly. I tried soaking supermarket baguette and just couldn’t get it right.
Japanese milk bread is also incredible because of the extra sweetness.
Was definitely not expecting an r/wewantplates reference. 😆
Panettone makes the best French Toast, IMHO……
"This should be a blind taste test, I'll close my eyes"
Wondering why you aren’t using your Breville induction cooktop.
You're a delight. Thanks for providing bright spots in days that can sometimes/otherwise be a bit taxing.
Russ and Daughters makes a chocolate babka french toast btw
When I was young, my family traveled to Quebec. We stopped for breakfast and I ordered "toast". I was very disappointed when I didn't get French toast.
Lol Kenji just described this thrift store in Berkeley Springs WV to a tee, down to the back room that was stuffed with Confederate flags and stuff
This is the goofiest cooking show 😂
how can you watch these videos and not just … love kenji.
In the UK we have both "Eggy bread" and French Toast.
Eggy bread would usually be a savoury breakfast, eaten with ketchup or brown (HP) sauce.
We also have the sweet version. If you ever have French toast on a menu, I'd expect it to be sweet.
I haven't stopped by in a couple of years and may I just say, you're looking incredible, clearly you've been living healthy!
When did Kenji get ripped??
I think that edible started kicking in sooner than Kenji expected
a holiday Panatone is the best bread for French toast!!
I love this style of video. Captain Planet had me dying.
