I’m dining at every restaurant in Epcot’s World Showcase & today we’re checking out Monsieur Paul. Dining here costs over $200 & after an awful experience I will never be back.

  1. I live in Prince Edward Island where we export some of the best lobster and mussels and oysters in the world. That was NOT lobster bisque. And mussel chowder is not usually red, however lobster bisque is. Clearly they didnt make the bisque with the lobster shells. I make a mussel chowder that contains a wheel of brie. It's an amazing recipe. I'll make both for you for just the cost of the seafood. I buy lobster right from the wharf at $9/lb and mussels at $1/lb

  2. Sounds like the manager needs to go. Why do they hire people that they themselves have not experienced fine dining to know where the bar should be set?

  3. Disney in general, is overrated. Walt Disney's vision was to take you to a better and happier world, but now, it's just an overpriced and under delivered theme park. I laughed out loud when you said, "that was so unpleasant," about the mushroom gel. I think they need to fire the chef… He doesn't seem to know good flavor. The jar of jam….WOW! They could have put the serving in a nice crystal bowl, and that would have improved the dish, although, it STILL would look like a toddler put the dish together.

  4. to add a 2% comment (the 98% of what you said was valid LOL) – – Bonne Maman jam from France is the BEST. I believe that is why they are serving it that way. I remember when "fancy" restaurants used to give out tiny bottles of catsup and mustards in tiny jars…it was oh so civilized. LOL

  5. I used to work in food service so, it takes a lot for me to complain about things. I would have complained on the second shell. The lobster was a nice thought. The under seasoning from all courses bothers me so much. Some foods had beautiful presentation but, at nearly $200 you should definitely be paying for salt and pepper. Sad the palette cleanser was the highlight. This incredibly honest review style is refreshing.

  6. We ate there a few months ago and it was better than Victoria and Albert’s we have been to V&A 22 times our last time about a year after it reopened and the meal was noting spectacular. V&A was at its peak back around 2010. Monsour Paul was wonderful, only draw back is you need park admission on top of you dinner.

  7. You only sound nit-picky if we're taking one issue out of context and imagine it to be the only issue. After their 8th mistake, it's no longer nit picking. After their 12th mistake, when you finally told them it wasn't perfect, they still didn't really make up for that- They brought you more food but there should have been an immediate cut to your bill in consideration of the course that they agreed wasn't up to par. So you paid for it despite it not being adequate. Don't let anyone invalidate your experience, it all seemed very sensible and fair from here.

  8. Wow! Shocking review, great to hear your honesty which how it should be. I hope Disney pick up on this too! Just on that fig jam, I’m in the UK and I just got one of those jars in my Bonne Maman advent calendar😂😂 I can’t believe they didn’t discount your meal for the shell issues alone. Keep up the good work x

  9. A restaurant where the servers wear name tags, as they serve white “lobster” pudding cold and call it bisque…nope, time to fold the napkin, hit the door and find a dive bar.

  10. It's an upper middle class restaurant. Rich people and retirees are older and whiter, and they're generally more sensitive to seasonings, especially salt. I'll be rude and say it's a retirement home restaurant.

  11. With the soup, the waiter said, " the red things in there". WTH? And not one, but two shells? Should have been comped at that point!

  12. I collect vintage cookbooks from the 50s to 80s and this meal looks exactly like something eaten back then. I usually add different spices and sometimes add or take away ingredients to make the recipes taste better and more modern. Apparently they couldn't even do that for over $200! 😑

  13. I wouldn't have paid for that meal. Absolutely disgraceful that the restaurant didn't knock a big chunk off the bill as an apology for the shells in food and dirty glass.
I've eaten in some very good restaurants and the food you were served wasn't even up to cafe standard.

  14. Love the honesty Kristen! Keep em coming! Thank God We did NOT eat there when We were there 3 weeks ago.
BTW, Who does the closed captioning for your videos? That really needs help!

  15. Covering up, what should have been a prime filet for that price, with all of that sauce is a crime. If they have to cover a steak in all that sauce, there is a reason.

  16. This is the 2nd bad review I’ve seen for this place within a month! Looking forward to your review for Takumi-Tei though!!

  17. Ick the dirty glass is inexcusable. I’m thinking of all the illnesses that could be on that glass, especially at Disney with people visiting from all over the world.

  18. Most people take their kids to Disney and will not go to a restaurant like this. The people that do go to a place like this in Disney, will not go back so Disney doesn't care about what they serve. I hope you let them know about the dirty glass, that is ridiculous.

  19. This is my first time watching you and can’t believe it. I’ve never been to an expensive restaurant. After your review I no longer wish to go to one. Awful just awful 😢. The money you paid for an experience like that. I wonder what other people felt. What was their experience. I totally believe you. It’s just terrible what the food service industry has become today as opposed to service 50 years ago. Appreciate your candor and honesty. Wish that place could have seen your review/video.

  21. paying 200 for flavorless but pretentious food? Call in Gordon Ramsey to go off!

  22. I trust you review because you do say nice things when you feel something is OK and then you tell the truth about the other things which is not so good. Disney is not known for it’s food and it is only known for high prices

  23. I will not give Disney one more dollar of my money. It's a rip off for sure, but my main objection is their atrocious business practices. Here's to their ignominious demise!

  24. I've literally only sent one meal back in my entire life, and that was last year at 47, and it was at a jenky chain restaurant. I just swapped out my entree. Had it been like this meal? I would have refused to pay. 2 shells and a dirty glass? Oh, that's going to to bring out the full on Karen.

  25. The reason to complain is to let the kitchen know adjustments need to be made. In this case, the prep person shucking shellfish wasn’t doing their job & shell fragments in food are DANGEROUS. There is a way to politely inform the kitchen that your food is ill-prepared and if you don’t do it — another guest will likely be served bad food and so on… You’re not doing anyone — including the kitchen — any favors by griping to yourself, your guests, or viewers. In fact, you’re hurting the establishment. Give them a chance to make the correction & make you happy. Never, ever sit in silence and pay for food that is undercooked, overcooked, has shells, etc., if the restaurant cannot make adjustments that satisfy you with substitutions in a timely manner they should ABSOLUTELY comp the item. If they don’t in real time, follow up the next day and ask to speak with a manager. Remember the server does not cook your food or make the call on the bill.

  26. I went a James Beard award restaurant last Thursday with 3 friends. The bill came to 220.00 before tip. We didn't order all that much. The food was cold and poorly seasoned. One thing wasn't even eatable. The price higher was too because of a 13% service charge plus 11% city tax. We went there because of all the hype around it. We won't be back. It seemed like a scam or just lack of attention to detail. There were lots of good reviews. But when the reviews were bad, they were really bad.

  27. Wow. They don't want to take staff time to light candles or buy them. Sad. However, when I was in grad school in 1977, I was a hostess ( as they were called then) at a downtown restaurant that had candles at the all the tables and in wall sconces. Sometimes the glass would burst when the wicks got too low and heated the glass. Maybe the restaurant is worried about liability that might come with real candles especially in a kid friendly environment.

  28. Maybe lots of old Baby Boomers eat there so they cut the salt so the Boomers treating for hypertension don't whine or don't come back. People who eat less salt get pretty used to the lack of it. Great video.

  29. Maybe they get so much business from one timers who heard the hype and who visit Disney World once in a lifetime that they don't care.

  30. I felt ripped off at a James Beard awarded restaurant last week. I felt really ripped off because of the hype. I think people get intimidated by the high end thing and think a bad experience is an exception and they don't want to draw attention to themselves.

  31. Interesting. When it comes to salt/ pepper, I always think that is a personal thing. I tend to cook with less salt than the average person, so what I find well seasoned others find bland. Salt level really depends on how much salt someone eats normally, so that point is really subjective. Otherwise, very unfortunate to find shell in food at any price. They need to do much better!

  32. I think Disney food in general is under seasoned in order to appeal to the "average" palate. The sauce on the beef looks awful. Absolutely no excuses for some of these problems. Definitely not worth the money!

  33. Your experience is emblematic of EVERYTHING that is wrong with WDW these days…..low quality, price gouging and you can forget about the "magic". They can't dump Iger and the entire board of directors soon enough. It's a shame that Walt Disney's name is still associated with this
    sorry company!
