An innovative project (first piloted in Toronto in 2018/19 ) focused on Lieder, English Art Song and French Art Song. (Art Song is the wonderful result of poetry chosen and set to music by brilliant composers.)
The masterclass proper will be 2 hours long, and will feature two singers at the graduate emerging artist level, supported by an experienced collaborative pianist. The singers will introduce the songs that they’ve prepared, offer translations of the poetry, and any other information they consider pertinent to enhancing the audiences understanding and enjoyment of the songs. The singers will perform, followed by further exploration of the songs and the singers relationship to the music and poetry. The afternoon will conclude with some time to converse with the musicians and socialize with other members of the audience, all with a glass of wine or cup of coffee in hand.
