Is food in France just better quality compared to the US? Everyone in my comment section keeps telling me that they instantly feel better and even lose weight when they come to France, even though they eat stuff they would never eat at home in America like butter and pastries. So today I wanted to investigate and understand what’s going on!
And of course, this video is about French food since I’m French and I live in Paris, but I could also have included other countries in Europe that have similar ways of eating + I’m aware that the US is a big country with a lot of different ways of eating, so feel free to share your thoughts in the comments, I read them all!

The AOP system is VERY HIGHLY regulated, so it's very expensive to go through the process of getting certified. The increase in quality demanded by the label means a lot of investments are put into the production process, to guarantee quality and safety because any bad stuff going into an AOP product would ruin the entire country's reputation since only traditional food can be labeled AOP. It's not some fake made-up label created by powerful companies, it's even regulated at a European level. When you buy AOP labeled food, you know you're getting the good stuff.
💯 our food is making us sick here in the US. Any time I’m in Europe, I can feel it. Very infuriating that our government is allowing this.
Living in Canada for 15+ years and cannot get used to the local food. Yes, it makes you sick. Every visit to Europe is like a relief.
The problem w/ American food is that most of it is……..FAKE!!!! Tasty but FAKE!!!!!
Meaning it’s processed and has lots of preservatives!!!!!:/
And if you want ‘Organic’ you gotta fork out more $$$!!!!!:/:/
French cuisine is among the BEST in the World!!!!!🤗🤗🤗
Excellent video Lucile , very informative. La baguette me manque trop!
While I agree French food is better and definitely more healthy than American food, it's not the best in Europe. If French food is better than Scandinavian food, why are our chefs more successful in international cooking competitions? What part of Europe has the best seafood? What part of Europe has the best game, mushrooms, wild berries and herbs? But perhaps France has the best frog legs (nothing wrong with frog legs though, I had excellent frog legs at a restaurant in Mulhouse). There is indeed good French food and France has meant a lot to the development of the art and science of gastronomy, but France is also ill-famed for its tourist traps. I've never heard anyone complain about Scandinavian tourist traps.
it was the SUNFLOWER OIL AND CHEMICALS in the trader joe's bagel that are unhealthy, the sugar is fine! sugar is healthy <33333333333
American food is fine in major cities. There’s a lot of crap, but it’s possible to find good stuff. If you venture into the countryside though, everywhere is absolute shit. Same goes for Canada btw. It’s impossible to find good food, except in some specific cities. In France, you always have good stuff around, even if you’re in the middle of nowhere.
WALLA!!
Great video!! Shout-out to Yuka 🙂
This was very interesting – thank you for sharing this info, especially how things are in France! Ive started a "mediterranean diet" (more or less) and have already felt better and lost over 10lbs while enjoying yummy food 😊
Thanks for sharing this important information in an understandable, non judgmental way. As a US citizen, I love eating in Europe and tend to feel great there… probably at least partially due to the food! Everyone should watch this video.
As an American who has lived abroad (Japan), I can assert that the US is the culinary idiot of the world. But America is also filled with people who care about food (foodies, health food nuts, people with authentic culinary traditions, etc.), so now it's really two countries in one: the disaster you describe and a place where really great food is available if you look.
I'm an American and I completely agree. I've been to Europe and ate EVERYTHING without issue. At home, not so much. Even the tap water in Budapest was better than the bottled water at home. They're intentionally poisoning us here.
What was the app you used to check the food?
Thank you for making this video! You have explained and added facts to what my body and taste buds have been telling me whenever I’ve traveled in Europe.
Thank you for the videos but I must say how much I hate it when you insist on saying veggies. The word is VEGETABLES.
What puzzles me about the USA is how very, very difficult it is to find simple foods, such as fresh vegetables – simply served – there. From a green salad to a plate of lightly steamed mixed veggies … salads come with thick, gloopy dressings, cooked veggies smothered by a heavy sauce with a texture resembling that of molten plastic. Where is the light salad which refreshes the palate? Where are the delicate greens which carry spring or summer onto your tongue with every bite?
Heck, where's the crispy apple, the juicy orange or the comforting banana that is such a handy, healthy snack for anyone else just about anywhere else in the world?
I'm French but I lived in Texas for 30 years.
We may spend more tiime eating our meals but Americans are eating snacks all day long so, in the end, they may spend more time eating than us.
I'm now retired, back home in France and happy to be able to buy affordable higher quality foods here.
Anyone knows the name of the app she showed where you could see the ingredients of food by scanning the code bar?
The author of the channel is speaking for the elites in Paris. Not for the common folk of France. In fact, In 2023, the nation ranked third in Europe for fast-food sales, with a total of 19 billion euros. France was McDonald’s second-biggest market, after the U.S. In 2023, France's fast-food sales reached 19 billion euros, a 61% increase since 2013. As for the baguette, there is nothing healthy about a large chunk of refined, white bread. I would call it very "processed food." Also, alcohol is turning out to be a cancer-causing beverage, as researchers are now discovering. So much for wine everyday.
The problem with the USA is that slavery never ended and 99% OF EVERYONE (including white people) are drowning in debt.
You almost lost me with your ad, which was TOO LONG, but well done, not bien cuit.
Subscribed 🇨🇵🇪🇺.
Not to be critical, but i think the comments where people were losing weight while traveling in europe was because
1. They were more active, most us cities are car centric, which leads to sedetary lifestyle, while on vacation you can easily do 15km of walking a day.
2. People were not snacking. People were probably only eating during designated meal times, the vast majority of overprocessed snacks come from snacking (chips, cookies, soda)
It was probably the amount of sugar you were consuming that made you feel unwell. probably didn't realize the quantity you intook.
Points for the Bears glass 🎉
What also may play a part is that due to getting used to over-seasoning with salt/sodium or sugar, Americans have lost a bit of sense of taste. I heard numerous times that they find European food bland. For instance, Italian food uses only a little seasoning, while American ‘Italian’ food is full of sodium and has tons of garlic. They just don’t know what good fresh ingredients taste like
