Belgium, not France, is credited with creating French fries😯🍟. According to local legend, small fried fish🐟was a popular meal for the Meuse River’s villages🎣 in the late 1600s. However, during the winter months, when the river froze🌬️, they would cut potatoes🥔 into fish-like shapes and cook them instead. They are said to have been known as “French fries🍟” by American soldiers stationed in Belgium during World War I since the Belgian army speak French.
