A French accent is easy to identify, however it can be disarming if the source of the accent is from someone with a very British name, Julie Smith. In this episode we feature Julie Smith, French wine importer and retailer of Le Decanter based in ABC Place in Westlands. The retail shop has expanded through a partnership with Art Caffe to Market Cellar by Le Decanter in Village Market, Rhapta Road and soon Junction Mall.
Julie takes us through her journey from Burgundy France (her favourite place in the world) to a hospitality career in Zanzibar before settling in Kenya where she has established her business as one of the top wine professionals. She does not divulge her secret in maintaining the French accent despite being away from France for decades. For this afternoon, we were content to be in Nairobi’s Burgundy.
