Pedro Parra is perhaps the wine industry’s foremost specialist on soils, “terroir” at the moment and he has work all over the world. When in the vineyard he likes to dig deep.

Parra has been on the Decanter Magazine Power List in 2009, 2011 and 2013 and he is described by international media as one of the leading forces behind the transformation of the Chilean wine industry. The movement usually called as “the new Chile”. He has inspired winemakers all over the world to “see” the soil as a strength and specific varietys connected to certain sites.
 
Parra holds a PhD in “The soil, terroir, in the vineyard” from the Paris Center of Agriculture. Over the years Parra has received great appreciation for his work done over the last during 18 years. Consulting in Canada, Armenia, Argentina, USA, France, Italy and Spain, among others in areas such as Burgundy, Barolo, Rioja and Montalcino.

Behind Pedro Parra’s commitment lies a steadfast confidence and a great personal interest in the composition of the vineyard soil and finding specific plots the right grape variety.

Pedro Parra is also a winemaker and co-owner of Pedro Parra y Familia, which has its seat in the Itata Valley in southern Chile since 2013.
