For our Wine-Searcher tasting today, David Allen MW, our wine director shows us an extremely expensive Bordeaux Superieur made by the producers of a Pomerol called Chateau Lafleur. The wine is a relatively new project from the Guinadeau family. While the wine is made at Chateau Grand Villages the fruit comes from a rather special site further south in the Fronsac appellation. The wine in question is Les Perrieres Bordeaux Superieur 2020.
Les Perriers is made by the Guinaudeau family, who own the legendary Pomerol property Chateau Lafleur. They also count among their holdings, Chateau Grand Village. Grand Village is used as the family home.
The wine was not initially called Les Perriers. In 2009, the family began producing G Guinaudeau, each edition being labelled Acte 1 in 2009, finishing with Acte 9 in 2017. Each Acte had a different label, each an artistic expression designed by owner Jacques Guinaudeau.
The 2018 vintage not only allowed the property to produce the best wine they have ever made but, the Acte series was replaced with a new name and label, Perrieres de Lafleur, a name that changed again almost immediately to Les Perriers. The name signifies the deep, limestone soils of the site on the Meyney plateau. In fact, Les Perriers is an old French term for quarry.
The vineyards of Les Perriers are planted to 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc. The Cabernet Franc comes from a massale selection of Bouchet Franc, the original name for Cabernet Franc. Located just slightly outside of the Fronsac appellation, in Mouillac, the vineyard is well-placed on the edge of the peak of the Fronsac limestone plateau. The vineyard is planted to a vine density of 5,500 vines per hectare.
The Right Bank terroir has gentle slopes with clay and limestone soils that enjoy north to south exposure. The soils and terroir, according to Jacques Guinaudeau are similar to those that can be found in St. Emilion.
The wine is vinified in traditional cement vats and is aged in an average of 33% new, French oak barrels for 15 months. On average 1,000 cases of the wine are produced per year.

Thanks for the good review. The wine is really interesting, but too expensive, according to wine-searcher from 65-90 Euros. For that price you can get very good left bank Cru Classé or St.Emilion Gr.Cru Classé. So my question is: is this better than Cantemerle (20-25€) or Pedesclaux (35-40€) or Chateau Laroque (25-30€), just to mention some few good value Bordeaux wines?
I really adore Ch Lafleur, this could be the poor mans chance to sense the magic, but it isn't.
