Over 75% of the worlds wine bottle corks come from Portugal and Spain, where cork oak bark is harvested by hand. It regenerates every 9 years, with some of the trees being 300 years old. Did you know, the guy who popularised the use of cork in bottles was a french monk, whose name you might recognize from the side of a bottle!
