Hi everyone! Thank you so much for the nice reaction to this video! I am very happy to see a comment section filled with constructive, respectful and fun conversations on this topic!
The Parisian/French male stereotypes depicted are quite an absurd travesty also
I'm Indonesian. What I had perceived for years about the French Girl vision was that you've all got that content life–the inner peacefulness, the unbreakable self-esteem, and the sense of pleasure–no matter the chaotic events happening in your life. And obviously we all have always wanted that women's contentedness. Even though it's not true or real, there's that ideal.
This is basically cultural apropriation but with a made-up idealised culture.
thank you again for the thoughtful video, What I think is harmful with this stereotype, is that it is so narrow. The stereotype fails to show the diversity and cultural depth of women who live in Paris, I have Parisien friends who are French but have Morrocan, Algerian, Jewish and Asian background. Paris is a modern beautiful complicated city with a rich history and unique influences. Also, If I see one more post of Café De Flore I'll vomit in my espresso, there are so many places to go and actually hang out with Parisians, just a few blocks away is my favourite, La Pallete in Saint Germain.
Great video! Thank you for what you said about the emphasis on thinness, it is very harmful
As they say in Italy, "class is not water". You can't buy class and style, no matter what people who want you to spend money on their products are telling you.
Girl, thank you for saying what I’ve always wanted to say … I mean the stereotype of Parisian people is totally different than the Parisian people that I know or actually knew after a few visits to Paris 😂❤!! I mean, I’m a guy that I can’t spot tourist girls who are overdressed just for the camera and Instagram how pathetic and cheap lol 😂
So true!! So is so cringe watch people trying to achieve the paris style like smoking and eating a croissant, incredible!
Happens in the UK, too. Many media have London-centric focus.
I think trying to debunk stereotypes is futile. If a person believes in a stereotype, then it's deserved.
This intro of the book is good for a fanfiction of miraculous ladybug..not all paris is like this..nothing in me is french but this is annoying
regarding pharmacies, the chinese buy as much as they can carry to resell or copy back in china..
❤danke ☕️from 上海👏😁
Wow. I don’t think I can afford to be a Parisian girl. 🤑
I am not French nor is my family, however they did live sort of close to the French border in North Spain and they did wear berets (common in their region) decades ago. And they were elegant, sophisticated and intellectual.
Salut Lucille! Je suis tellement heureuse de t'avoir trouvee ici! J'aime beaucoup ton contenu!Est-ce que tu as un canal pareil en francais? Je voudrais bien m'y abonner pour meilleurer mon francais!
We live in Germany. We don't wear Lederhosen.
Your voice needs to be heard because your message is so strong and draws truth into French culture myths that are often overlooked..
I'm Italian, but when I saw Emily in Paris, I was offended for you. My aunt is Parisian, and I know Paris very well. Like you I think all this stereotype are ridiculous. Even for the Italian, the exaggeration of hand gesture, the scream everywhere , the fact that seems we all ride a bike full of apple like the spots of Tuscany are only for the tourists. I live in Emilia in Notrh of Italy but it's not like that at all, the same for Paris, I've never seen all this perfect girls around the streets or at the Café. I love Paris, but even the rudeness of french peolpe, portrayed in Emily is really offensive. To me the Parisian were always kind and helpful when I need help. I agree with you even for the book. I saw it in a book shop, and…OMG the index was terrible!😮💨 thanks for this really interesting and smart video.Love your channel. 😘
You ruined my image of French Women!!!! You've ruined my life!!! Okay just kidding – I'll recover somehow. I need to find a new stereotype to keep me busy
31 is def on my wishlist! You’re reading my mind!
Well its exagetated because is a TV glam version in which we want to see as well beautiful dresses, colors, ..etc ..its just TV if not, why films and TV….should exist if we have to see same gray and just real day to day life 😂😂😂😂😂 …calmez-vous mesdames 😂😂
I do have to say that is true what you say. I have had the pleasure of visiting all over France since I work in the States for a French company. When I visit Toulouse or other cities I do see French woman very chic.❤
Ouais! Très intéressant ce vidéo 👏
If you lived in the US South, you’d really go ballistic.
I have seen comments on social media where many people were complaining about the amount of Black people in Paris. For them, it was not giving “Amelie”
vous avez mélangé Catherine Deneuve et Françoise Hardy
well to be fair.. NO aesthetic girl of any country is real 😄 😭
It’s funny cause I dress how Japanese interpret French style. I call it kawaii French chic. It’s more doll like than actual street style but I love it.
The first time I went to Paris the thing that most surprised me was how many women I saw wearing Levi’s T-shirts. I live in New York and nobody wears those. No offense, but it was disappointing. I love France. Great and thank you.❤
I think the world needs the Circassian girl stereotype..check on it..unique culture…could have been made a high quality content of it
I didn't realize what's the point of this video? You aren't satisfied with the fact, that France has her own brand? Show real Parisian as well, why not. Nice and beautiful. Stereotypes exist. Nothing new.
So you would be happier to be "ugly tastelees hag" stereotype? Look at German women f.e. – there is the stereotype that they are "not attractive and are cold", Russian women are "pretty (when young) and golddiggers"… Who has it worse? French women hit the stereotype jackpot in my opinion…What is not a stereotype is that French people "hate" everything and complain all the time, even about the great stuff, obviously 😅
France is a shithole🗣️💯
@Lucile I've been to Paris twice and most of the people dressed like French stereo type were tourist. Red Beret with a Black & White striped shirt.
I’m from California. I don’t surf 🏄
As a Tokyo girl your "We LIVE here" is so real.😭
We are effortless because we are to busy and too broke
Love this video. I have been to Paris 4 times over the past 25 years. Everytime I waste time with YouTube videos about Parisian style, I think: where does that podcaster find those women/men dressed like that? I have almost never seen the regular "French Girl" dressed the way she is portrayed in social media. I see young and middle aged women dressed in items that the influences would have us believe a "French Girl" would never wear. It's all so silly. I guess it makes for content and brand pushing.
Thank you for the video! Just some notes- I do not want to perpetuate negativity but just some thoughts to share.
I did see some women who looked incredibly stylish in Paris, like you might see around New York possibly, while living in the 16ème.
For the tourists – not everyone has the luxury of getting intel on a city to know the lesser-known places to go. As it is, Paris is expensive to stay in and travel to, so I think with limited time you would want to plan to go to well known spots and do the best you can.
For the café chairs – that style is not as common in other countries. So for that reason, it makes sense why someone would want to choose that café. As you said, a café with plain chairs like one would find in their home country could have just as good food as one with more stylistic chairs. The main difference being the stylistic chairs. For that reason, I don't support the hate on tourists.
I personally would not say Paris is "very" diverse compared to other parts of the world. It is diverse, but not compared to NY, Atl, etc. some places in the US. The Sabrina girl is likely considered Parisian if she grew up in Paris and therefore adopted certain styles or habits, so what you mentioned about her is a bit contradictory as well.
That all is marketing media.. the Parisian chic or What to pack for a European holiday or what do New Yorkers wear?
You can honestly just be you and do you without a care!
But for many it’s a business. That’s how they make their money. So whatever sells!
And there are enough dumb ppl that will listen.. so yeah!
Great video!
I’m Mexican…. I don’t eat tacos everyday.
Your vibes are really pretty :))
Nice video.
Hi Lucile…I have been to Paris and paid 20 Euros for a fried chips plate at a restaurant. I can't forget it still. Could have had a full salmone meal at a german restaurant for much less.
Im from Iraq and we dont have Camel 😂
Hi Lucile, I really enjoyed this one! It seems like people are always chasing after something that either doesn’t exist or is not attainable. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Such great thoughts.
