Hi everyone! I’m an American from the Northeast (New England). I want to create a watering hole for people who want to discuss, learn and teach about history through YouTube videos which you guys recommend to me through the comment section or over on Discord. Let’s be respectful but, just as importantly, not be afraid to question any and everything about historical records in order to give us the most accurate representation of the history of our species and of our planet!
Having a diverse perspective is crucial to what I want to achieve here so please don’t hold back! I want to learn about all I can! Keep recommending and PLEAESE join my Discord 🙂 ( https://discord.gg/ejxUtD2X )

Versailles is about 40 min away in car and there are many trains that go there in about 30min!
When do you plan to visit France again Connor ?… You are welcome …
As the British say, France is (or rather was) lovely, except for the French. As long as you like only French wines/cheese being available in any shop/supermarket, you love powerful garlic, you love thick, choking cigarette smoke everywhere, trsts everywhere and you are not vegetarian or vegan. Have you SEEN their houses for sale, the ones not gutted and 'Laura Ashley'd by comfortably well-off British former owners? Best have a bottomless wallet to replace the roofs, plumbing, electrics, illegal sewage pit and put in even a modest real kitchen plus modern insulation and eco heating!
The statue in Colmar is of governor Jean Roesselmann, who was killed in 1267 when he defended the town against the bishop of Strasbourg who wanted to invade it.
The Mont Blanc is the highest mountain in western Europe (15767.72 ft). It's on the Italian border, there's a 7 Mile tunnel to Italy through it.
Bordeaux is in the south west, on the Atlantic coast. It has often been used as a filming location in movies about the old Paris (before the mid 1800s).
The earliest evidence of steady production of wine has been found in Armenia (c. 4100 BC) while the earliest evidence of a grape and rice mixed based fermented drink was found in ancient China (c. 7000 BC).
There are things twice as old as the Mont Saint-Michel! Even from Roman times, that are still used, like e.g. the Arènes of Nîmes.
Germany has the most castles in Europe that are still intact (around 25.000). France has a lot of them as well, though many are only ruins.. Yes, Versailles is roughly one hour away from Paris, by car.
I love your videos, they show really nice places here in France.
But as far as I love my country I really wish to visit the US too. Even if your large cities may seems less charming you have an amazing diversity too.
The "old english" industrial cities along the east coast, NY the big cities near the great lakes up north.
The Old South with Lousiana, Texas which is kind of a state within the States.
California, land of many dreams and a rich and diverse population, the northern west coast and the many national parks.
Las Vegas, city of vice and wonders.
The quiet middle states with mindblowing landscape and welcoming people.
The apalachian, that chain of moutains nearly as old as the earth itself.
And I miss many more.
I know we sometimes have a love/hate relationship between France and the US. And it's easier for you to relate to great britain.
But somewhere in my mind there is the tought that amoung the nations of earth there are 3 that share a deep revolutionary spririt that kind of shape the universal psyke.
Each of them in their own ways.
And those are the US, Russia, and France.
Fraternally,
some random french guy ;D
Hi McJibbin, from South France, 🌴🌞
Alcohol and drug use goes back to the dawn of time. You should know that many animals and insects consume alcohol or drugs to get high. This is not specific to humans.
Peace, folks. ☮👈😎
Le chateau de Fontainebleau mérite un détour. Les villages du Lot. Carcassonne aussi.
Hello,
1) The statue you saw in Colmar is Lazare de Schwendi (1522-1583) who fought against the Ottoman invasion in Europe.
2) I was in Lyon yesterday and I ate a famous « quenelle » in the big Brasserie Georges… de-li-cious !!!
3) Noah invented the wine.
4) You can find Roman monuments in the south-east of France in Orange, Arles, Nîmes, Vaison-la-Romaine, Saint-Rémy-de-Provence…
5) The church you asked about in Paris is le « Sacré-Coeur de Montmartre » built in reparation of the crimes of French Revolution.
6) Versailles is about 20km south-west of Paris, there are three different railways between Paris and Versailles, you may take the line starting from Gare Montparnasse and stop in Versailles-Chantiers which is the closest to the palace.
Welcome back to France ❤
13:02 : Thanks to Epic History TV 🙂
Vive l'empereur !
Oh, a new video have been upload: "Napoleon Crosses the Alps: The Road to Marengo" !
Many castles here in France, because in the Middle Ages, France was surrounded by the English to the north, the Germans to the east, the Italians and Austrians to the southeast, and the Spanish to the south. Our ancestors had to be able to defend themselves.
Napoleon's tomb is accessible to the public for free if I remember correctly. It's at Les Invalides. I will even make a video of it for the commemorations of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Paris in 1944.
Paris to Versailles : 22km (13,6 miles)
Thank you for your video, you do honor to France! I subscribe, signed: a Parisian 😉
There is great skiing in the Pyrenees it's the alps on a smaller scale.
Georgia invented wine according to Clarkson on the grand tour
I'm impressed by your knowledge for France Geography. GG and thx for your content
The visuals in this video don't really do justice to the places they mention. One of the regions that are never shown although really popular with the French is the Basque Country / Pays Basque. We share it with Spain. Wonderful scenery, food, hilly mountains and splendid beaches, surfing…
Romans brought wine culture in Gaul. But the wine was may be invented in the Caucase, Georgia has one of the oldest wines…
Hi! Glad Colmar made it to the top 8. The statue featured in the video is of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lazarus_von_Schwendi .
It's a shame Brittany wasn't mentioned here. Beautiful region in the west of Normandy.
You should react to the olympics cycling road race. Men or women. Great way to check out parisian streets.
If you want to visit french castles, you should go to the Loire Valley.
Bordeaux is in the South West, at the end of the sea inlet.
There's a lot of people from England smooth to France that say it's a lovely country to live in
I might go to Canada because it was here last week and she's been asking me to go to Canada that it's a beautiful country
During touristic season (june-september) the Mont Saint Michel is VERY crowdy. That can be quite uncomfortable. (and because american people often visit Normandy in June to celebrate the landing, your familly probably judged is was inadequate).
Come back in late september : the weather is nice, the kids are in school, and tourists get back to their places, and the Mont is still open (it's open all year long, but certain visits aren't available)
Other nice places : Périgord (white, green, red and … black), Carcassonne (a kind of Mont Saint Michel in the south), speeking of pyrénées : The cirque de Gavarnie, Toulouse and its surroundings; in the east : the Citadelle de Bitche, the Strasbourg City, in the west : The Abers or the Carnac alignments, the Morbihan's Bay, …
In France, on official bureau called "office de tourisme" has been created for each city, and each region. They made dozens of videos like this one : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vxQeiK0FZA0
