Obernai and wine route in a motorhome, Alsace, France. Ep 10

Well, the Alsace keeps on getting better…we’ve started the wine route at Obernai and it’s a beautiful place to start. With a detour into the mountains followed by an overnight surrounded by vines, these last few days have been glorious.

hello and welcome back to our tiny little YouTube Channel full of fun for Vol and sight scene we are in a little town called orai just right inside [Music] Strasburg so why are we here Andrew uh well I keep asking myself that all time really I haven’t worked it out yet it’s just like one place after another it’s beautiful it’s a really cute little town with lots of half timbered houses just words can’t describe how beautiful it [Music] is we’re just doing the 1.4 km walk around the outside of the town along the ramp parts and it’s absolutely beautiful it’s so peaceful dying to get into the center but I’m pacing myself I’m just doing this bit [Music] first it’s just like your typical laners town like Burnley for example yes just like that but we have to remember to say alace not ala and not definitely German Shepherd definitely not so we should have come to or eye yesterday after we left Strasburg and we got here about half Elish and it was heaving cuz Thursday is the huge big market so off we went into the hills and if you watched our last Vlog you know that where we ended up maybe wasn’t quite as as we thought there was rumored to be prostitutes now we looked high and low and couldn’t find a single proit and why you’d go to a remote part of a French wood I’ll never know but why about French wood so we came back to to or ey last night and actually if you’re going to come to or ey that’s when you need to arrive cuz there’s no point coming during the day because it’s so busy with hundreds of tourists you just W you just W get your van in but come after tea early evening you you’ll get it wedged in somewhere so it’s a free air it’s it’s not on air though is it well it is on Google it’s yours it as an air it’s just a car park but it’s an authorized place for motor homes to park in so it’s great that the the town have done that it’s busy and it’s only June so I can imagine it only gets worse we going to end up being here for two nights maybe even maybe even three no facilities here so you need to be uh fresh and clean when you arrive we will of of course put the what three words here in your dreams it’ll go where I put it and um we will let you know how we get on over the next day [Music] too run around in the sunshine baby I’m chasing [Music] you got a smile that taste like da that yellow purple and blue yeah everybody’s still talking about the Pres but I’m just [Music] over that’s been a lovely three days in Oran ey you like Oran ey don’t you I do yeah it’s really nice it’s been sweltering we have cooked in the van and you have kicked the ass out of it 3 days we went in we’ve had a look around during the day and we’ve had a look around at night as well and it’s just it was the same wasn’t it nothing is just the same it was nice the big belfrey and the church were lit up and they were beautiful it was really nice so our little car park has been massive car park has been okay it’s a bit Dusty when it’s dry so the van is filthy inside and out we’ve had a few night boy Riders doing donuts Bo we’ve had some boy Riders why not Bo Racers doing let’s not tell everyone about the boy Riders um but they just did a couple of Twirls and then they’d gone do they twirl yeah they do some per you know what I mean in the player yeah and then we took the Volkswagen Golf mark four which big exhaust and then went so all in all it’s a nice park up it does get busy so I think it would be come in the morning or come at night don’t try and come midday Thursday’s obviously a heaving day because of the market it’s stuffy when you play this bik you can realize why I’m laughing it’s just rude but this car park would come again so don’t be put off it just it’s a means to an end it’s a means to be in a really smart place there’s no charge we’ve been here three nights we’re going to find some way now of doing an van service and move on so what this has taught us is that being in a car park in the heat isn’t a great idea because obviously you can’t do camping Behavior and the majority of the motor homies here haven’t had the chairs out but it’s been hot so next time we’re going to have a heat wave we’re going to a campsite yes and we’ll spend 40 a night rather than just sitting in my pants all day but we had a massive thunderstorm last night which has really cleared the air it’s so cool today it’s lovely and we’re on a bit of a road trip so stop number one for our road trip today is laal Jaan spices sure it’s not how it’s pronounced bud is staying in the van cuz we’re going in to the gingerbread [Music] Factory you can smell it as soon as you coming I thought I thought that were you trumped rude like a ginger Trump [Music] oh this is beautiful [Music] that’s quite nice if weat loads to this we won’t need to buy dinner so so far we’ve only gone from oranai to get V and into bar and the plan is to drive on this Wiggly road to get to shamp defur which is the highest point of this Reg and then dependent on the time come down here to find a spot so that we can look at the castle at H coningsburgh [Music] eyes are always miles down the road we must be moving faster than and we [Music] know and we know goodbye I’ve always had a problem with goodby I wipe away the pain it well that’s the shamp def Monument used to be able to go up it but I can see barriers there that maybe we can’t and the view is not great today I’m not even getting out neither am I so we’re here at champ de I think what we’ll do is we’ll just make our way back down the mountain and get around to our park up which we’re going to try it scent hippolite [Music] so tonight I’m chasing cars on Highway [Music] 95 listening to songs that make me [Music] cry but I’m all [Music] right down every beaten path just trying to find what’s buil to last but everything’s changing the faces and the scenes around me I’m holding a moment with the cast in the sand they going to fall down walk all night to leave my footprints in the snow maybe change is well what a stunning place to wake up to this morning yes it’s called s hi poopus San s hippopotamus we hope it’s something like that anyway it’s at the foot of chatow kingberg which is just up the hill there we’re now following the wine route which is 170 km strip down the alzas that’s a long strip and it’s really amazing when you look at it from Google I didn’t realize that all the fields that I was looking at were actually Vineyards it just looked like a gray greeny color but when you zoom right in you can see the fact that they’re all Vineyards you can see the individual grapes well they’re very very tiny at the moment they’re really cute CU obviously they’re not ready for harvesting but when now parked right in the heart of a Vineyard area it’s beautiful it’s really lovely so along the wine route there are about 70 of these half timbered Villages that you can visit I I I won’t be visiting them all no I’m not going to anymore well we we’re not going to go to the very popular ones until we go let’s go to rubbish ones then until we go to Colmar which will be later on this week but we’re just going to have a wander into the little one near us so poai and just going to have a look at it cuz it was looked really pretty when we were driving through yesterday we feel a bit obliged really there’s there’s a park up here it’s free it’s in a beautiful spot it’s only a 10- minute walk into town so I guess we’ve paid nothing for a campsite so we’ll go and spend a few Euros in town [Music] [Music] every one of these houses is unique they’ve chosen their own colors their own shutter design and the different ways the beams crossed together they are very beautiful [Music] it’s lovely that they’re building the new what looks like a new build in the traditional style doesn’t it [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] so you’ve chosen a campsite that’s a two star well if we’re going to Splash cash I’m going to not Splash it as much so two star cheaper than four star [Music] [Music] Andrew has been a real Bargain Hunter with this stop yes because using our axi card which is now a digital membership so it’s an app uh we found this campsite it’s only a two star but hey we’re not snobs 15 yes €15 per night so I got two nights they also charge you and a half booking fee but okay I can stand that and what 80 cents tourist tax or something like that so basically 30 about 32 for two nights on a little campsite got his own pitch it’s really quite nice I don’t long to come back here showers are like okay but for that money we we’ve paid that money to be in a car park so before we go we’ll have fresh water everything else done bargain really however Andrew has played a Blinder with this one because just over there is part of the UNESCO sites of the V band lot so we’ve got a beautiful multiple stared fortification just over there that we’re going to go and have a look around no I just chose it because it was cheap I didn’t seriously I’m sick of UNESCO is a secret UNESCO lover very secret but I am a lover [Laughter] [Music] it’s really interesting these curtains these walls are 9 M tall and it made this fortification very secure and it’s one of the 12 vban fortifications that are covered by the UNESCO well what we going to over 11 we’ve already know one of them so we 10 more to go and this around France it was part of the king’s defense system it’s all very interesting love so these are all art installations from world-renowned Artist as part of the citadel’s Open Air Museum of Art some of them are quite ingenious some of them are a bit amusing so this is sepe a 100y Old Vine that represents The alaan Vineyards it’s been uprooted and it’s ready to go off on its Nordic Walkin along with its little bird I’m going and travel the world [Music] [Music] it’s a full English in a crate I can have a pudding [Music] one yeah had fun well that’s been a lovely walk just got back in tankz it’s starting to rain now don’t want to get my hair wet so um
