A big thank you to Gonzague Le Nail at Cabinet Le Nail for the opportunity to tour this stunning French Castle! A link where you can find the castle for sale on Cabinet Le Nail’s website can be found at the end of this description.

Come tour this renovated 12th century French castle, located in the beautiful Indre department of France. Priced at €3,750,000, Chateau St. Chartier offers a blend of historical charm and modern luxury, set in an picturesque countryside setting.

Phil’s Note:

My jaw dropped when I first saw Chateau Saint Chartier. We were driving in from Chateauroux, and I saw one of the towers of the Castle. The car’s navigation system said we were still 5 minutes away, and I thought it must be wrong — that couldn’t be it — but then we continued to approach, seeing more towers and spires as we got closer, until it dominated our field of view. I hope we captured the castle’s imposing feeling in this video.

It certainly has captured our imagination. We’d also like to thank the owner of the castle, Ivo Fornesa, for his hospitality and for letting us tour his beautiful castle. He had amazing stories about the castle, and look for a video with him soon.

I mentioned he’s an author of over 50 books, and I’d like to recommend his book, Death in Saint-Chartier, which is available here: https://amzn.to/4cbxFzx

Castle History

The history of this property is long and rich. It had it’s beginnings as a fortified Benedictine monastery from the 6th century, when a monk from Syria, Santus Carterius, came to evangelize and build a monastery. The defensive aspects of the site were built up more over the years, and the first mention of a castle on the property was in 1102 by the Archbishop of Bourges when he was visiting the area. More is known when André de Chauvigny (1150-1202), cousin to Richard the Lionheart, was given Saint-Chartier when he married Denise de Deols, Countess of Devon. The authors George Sand and Alexandre Dumas were apparently common guests at the castle, and it must have served as inspiration for their many works. Rumor has it that Joan of Arc even stayed at the property during one of her campaigns, and that Napoleon stopped by St. Chartier after his loss at Waterloo and buried his personal treasure on the property.

The castle’s high towers, spacious rooms, and centuries-old architecture reflect its long history. The grand rooms on the second floor open to a terrace with breathtaking views of the surrounding park. Inside, you’ll find stunning features like parquet and marble floors, monumental fireplaces, and a beautifully chapel with stained glass.

  3. And this astonishing castle is „only“ 4 Mio? I think for this kind of property it is a bit low.

  4. Subscribed. I have become obsessed with old world structures after touring a Chateau in Normandy last fall. Fantastic video, keep going

  5. Absolutely love this place simply incredible❤ just imagine the time and expertise needed to pack everything once it’s sold. This place is just enormous.

  6. I liked the shot where the presenter actually had "Viking horns" coming out of his head – thanks to the trophy buffalo head set up on the wall behind him. The red Chinese themed room is amazing as is the rest of this chateau.

  7. Wow. If (or when) I have the money I would collect properties like this instead of art. Imagine owning a collection of these, especially ones with a fairly manageable size (not Versailles lol). Living history.

  8. I was amazed there wasn't any advertisements amongst this video. I watched this video free of advertisements & i am glad i did that was an amazing tour of this castle

  9. Châteaux tours fit you so well!
They are for some reasons very inspiring! It is always a pleasure to watch your videos! Thank you Philip!

  10. I've seen several videos with the owner, Ivo, and he is one of the most interesting and intelligent personalities I have ever seen before.

  11. This is an incredible castle! I love that you show all of the rooms and secret passages of the castle 🏰! I hate other peoples castle 🏰 tours that only show a tiny portion of the castle 🏰. I quit watching them if that happens…

  12. The entire video is without perspective. The talking camera man is never seen or introduced. We never know exactly where you guy's are in the Castle. Love the Castle I think?

  13. That chapel was exquisite, great video, thanks 😊 you remind me of Enes and Mikey with your banter and excellent showmanship.

  14. This is now my favorite castle. With $15 mill, I could live out the rest of my life in that library and bedroom. The extra money is for maintenance and taxes…

I get people wanting to understand the layout better, but I really enjoyed this wandering exploration of incrediblemess,

  15. What an artful and painfully beautiful property that exudes history from the very bricks. I was simply enraptured by the entire video. I can honestly say, I've never wished to live somewhere more in my life.

  16. Just that hand painted chapel, incredible. The rich velvet blue of the ceiling with tiny stars on, really beautiful :o)

  17. Wow I only wish I could buy it it looks beautiful 😍 amazing property. Thank you for sharing ❤❤❤❤❤ very well done 😊

  18. 😍🥰 The realtor's passion is truly admirable, along with his exceptional ability to articulate and show respect for the history of the home… Castle, Mansion..haha
