I saw the New French Onion and Red Wine Soup in Lidl it is part of their Deluxe Range and is £1.09p – the soup was ok but the best French onion soup I have ever had – it was warming and comforting but for me it was too sweet I would have preferred a more savoury flavour – I would not buy this again for myself but some people may like a sweet soup ? I score this 6 out of 10 –
The Halkidiki & Kalamata Batard I picked up in Tesco and as a person who enjoys Olives this is a perfect bread – very tasty indeed with nice pieces of Olive throughout – I will buy this one again without doubt ! I think it was £1.65p but I am not sure – I score the bread 10 out of 10 all day long !

Morning – I love making my French Onion Soup and agree that it can be sweet which I like – but counteract this by adding some cheese on top – and look at you going all posh – Halkidiki & Kalamata Batard! Not a fan of Olives as you know but can understand how olive lovers would adore it Cheers Paul
Batard bread…..i saw something else 😵💫 The bread definitely sounded interesting. I used to like corn bread from Tesco but haven't seen it in ages. It's so nice sometimes to have a bowl of soup with some nice bread, my favourite soups are tomato or beef broth. Have a great day Graham 👍
You wouldn't buy it again. Fair enough Graham. I might leave it so. You are so honest in your reviews☘️🇮🇪🧚♂️👍
Unfortunately for me Graham I am not the biggest fan of onion soup and definitely not a fan of olives black or green so both are not for me but as Kate said there is definitely something comforting about a bowl of hot soup and some nice bread especially on a cold wet day and yes I too love cracked black pepper in my soup. You have now put me in the mood for some mushroom soup and some bread for my tea tonight 👍👍🥫🍞
The soup didn't impress mainly for me because of the sweetness, like you i prefer something more savoury. Thanks for your review as i can avoid!
The bread looked delicious! Imagine dipping that in some tastier soup yummy!
Rain here today, but it will be good for my roses😊
Nemaste have a good day!
it does look warm and comforting mate, mind u i love any type of bread and veggie soups, especially on a cold/wet day. anyway great review thanks for the inspiration! all the best from cornwall as always mate
I've never had French onion soup and I don't like Olives !
I am a fan of Pea & Ham soup with crushed Pork scratchings as croutons!
Greetings from a wet & Windy Holyhead.
