Take a tour of the dining room in our 17th century French farmhouse. See the 400-year-old fireplace and all the furnishings we selected for the room.

hey guys today I thought I would take you on a tour of the dining room in our 400-year-old French Farmhouse we bought this property 6 months ago and this is the only room that I currently consider to be finished okay let me start by showing you the best feature in the room which definitely has to be this fireplace over here it is absolutely m massive and original of the house and as you can see still in working condition I’ll just move closer so this is definitely where we like to hang out on cold rainy days it’s just incredibly cozy and as you can see it has a lot of original ston workor this is all handcarved just absolutely beautiful um now we were lucky and we were able to purchase some of the furniture from the previous homeowners so some of the pieces that we bought include this coffee table and old wood sofa and cuz I just really suit the spot that they’re in and I consider this my pul dark sofa because if you have ever watched that show it just looks like the same sort of style of wood sofa that they sat on in the evenings and if I just pan around around a bit here I can show you some of the other pieces in the room now this uh what we use as a wood sideboard was originally an old store countertop and it’s one of the pieces that we were able to bring with us from the United States it’s about 10 ft long so it’s really a very big piece and by some miracle I was able to bring all of my dishes over without having them broken so I’m very happy about that and if we move around so that you can see the table so I think this table is about 12 ft long and we this is another piece that we bought from the previous homeowners um when we bought it from them it had never had any finish put on the wood it was just bare wood and they had it covered with a tablecloth uh so I actually finished it with a wax oil coat with that’s food safe and so that’s allowed it to keep its original color now this table has actually a really interesting story and was part of the reason that I really wanted to own it um so this the wood for this table was Mill from a tree that used to stand on this property and they had a friend who was wanting to get married and he needed money for an engagement ring and so they commissioned him to build this table so that he would have the money that he needed and so it has been built specifically for this room and would actually probably have to be taken apart to come out because it is actually quite a wide table in addition to being long um and I really liked how wide it is because there’s enough room at this table to put all your serving dishes down the center and then there’s still lots of room around it to set your table and to have lots of guests um so we did buy this English church pew from them as well cuz it really worked well with the table um and they had a set of Darkwood chairs that they used with this table and we opted not to buy those and after a bunch of searching I found this set of beastro chairs on Facebook market place and I think they work really well with the table in the room very happy to have those and we changed out the light fixture over the table and this one we found at a consignment store here in France and it was really really inexpensive and so that was the perfect fit for that table and then this uh mirror that you see behind it is one that we had in our home in Tennessee it hung over the fireplace in our living room so very happy to have brought that with us as well and if I turn towards the front door there’s also this antique pine cabinet and that’s another piece that we bought from the previous owners and there’s one actually just like it upstairs so we’re fortunate to have a set of two of them because I think they’re quite pretty and also very practical I’ll show you what we use this one for so instead of having a junk drawer which never seems to have enough space for everything we now have a junk cabinet and I have everything organized in bins and labeled so that hopefully things get put back where they belong and so far that is working out really well for us so and it’s in a handy spot because we’re kind of always in and out of the dining room so that’s worked really well but yeah on any cold and rainy day you can pretty much be sure that we’re in here enjoying the fire and we’re just very fortunate that we were able to purchase this property and work on bringing it back to life so that is our tour of the dining room today I hope you’ve enjoyed it and there will be many more tours to come as we work on fixing up the house and the gardens thanks for watching
