Magnificent French Louis XV period dining table featuring a later Circassian walnut burl wood butterfly veneer top with a serpentine form edge. Circassian walnut is one of the most rare and expensive woods ever harvested, it is also the most attractive. Timber containing large burls are nearly extinct. The base is constructed from solid hand-carved French oak made in the French Rococo taste with a conforming serpentine apron and exquisite rocaille decoration on the legs. The table is supported by Classic cabriole legs that end with scrolled feet and comfortably seats six people. The base was constructed in the mid 18th century, while the top was commissioned in the mid 19th century to match the base. To view the table in person is like staring at a beautiful French painting. Purchased from a historic estate in San Francisco CA.
