hi I’m Victoria welcome to my channel
called comeback with wine while I review
affordable wines during this episode
today I am going to review lak
wines lak is a appellation or AOC
located in the G region of France in the
sou R Valley it is B on the other side
of the river from ChatOn jupa and it is
also classified as one of the 17 crew
villages in the ran
Valley the way the wine is classified in
the ran Valley is you’ve got your kind
of your more generic wines which are
curon then further up you’ve got your
curon village and then again you’ve got
your uh your 17 crew
Villages the red ones from
are made from your classic um Southern R
blend which is gach s Mor and
Sor the climate there is Mediterranean
with low rainfalls and very high levels
of
sunshine however there is a cooling
effect from the mistal which is a
western Northwestern wind that blows
down the RO Valley and has a real
cooling effect in The
Vineyards in comparison with shaton jup
in lak there is heavier dose of S and M
making the wines more kind of peppery
and more spicy in comparison with those
from
chat the wine we’re going to review
today is called um arus 2020 lak that I
bought in Tesco for
1250 now the other thing I would like to
say in comparison of shat ofup is the
one from lak you know can be more for
£150 and shat you probably won’t find a
bottle that’s going to be cheaper than
202 in the UK um they’re quite expensive
ones and they’ve been um price have been
growing more and more on ChatOn of jup
every year as
well um in terms of color for this one I
want to say kind of Deep
Purple quite opaque
color well the first notes I’m getting
on the nose is very much kind of those
peppery
notes I want to say black
pepper a bit of kind of paprika um you
know almost like your paprika
spice black uh red currant
blackberries but also some aous notes
bit like Rosary
maybe and some earthiness as well so
kind of yeah different layers of of
flavors and of of
um of scent on the
nose so I want to say medium
acidity tanins they’re probably medium
to high but they’re well integrated
they’re not harsh they’re very
smooth um in terms of what you’re
getting on the palette then yes red
current uh
blackberries that kind of pepperiness
like black
pepper and a bit of Rosemary like
herocious notes as well and some kind of
earthiness as well to to the wine in
terms of finish I want to say probably
medium to long I can still taste in my
mouth now and bodywise full body so um
why anybody would want a spicy wine I
don’t know why are they putting pepper
in it put pepper in it you just said it
tastes pepp of different grapes they use
and the you know the
climate chili and
chocolate but no it’s uh yeah really
nice uh really nice wine that
one in terms of value score I’m going to
score this wine at 8.5 out of 10 because
I thought the flavors were great there
was loads of layers of different flavors
the the Finish was fairly long the wine
was really enjoyable the T were well
integrated they weren’t harsh but at the
same time it was a full bodied wine but
quite smooth to drink so yeah I think
it’s for £250 I think it’s a great wine
and if you like ChatOn nupa but you
found them quite expensive and not
really affordable then definitely try
try the lerak wines instead as an
alternative so is that a top tip if
because Chad know the P got more and
more expensive because they’ve had a
number of really good vintages right the
last few years because the weather’s
been really good does that mean when
someone has a really good vintage on
like a branded wine it’s a good idea to
hunt around for the less well-known
Wines in the nearby because they’re
likely also to have good vintages yeah
absolutely because obviously they’ve had
the same climate the same weather and if
they’ve had you know good weather then
the vigard next to it that’s probably
less you know well known will have you
know enjoyed the same uh yeah the same
good weather so
absolutely um and yeah and I think shab
that’s the thing with them is you know
it’s a it’s a good name and therefore
you know people will pay more for those
wines so it is really good to look for
you know maybe the neighbors are a bit
cheaper but you know similar quality
wine as well I should Host this show
yeah you’re getting now yeah you’re
definitely improving on the on the wine
on the wine knowledge Ben’s top
