It has been suggested that the leader of North Korea, Kim Jong Un selects up to 25 women each year for a so called “Pleasure Squad”.
These women are thought to be divided in to three groups – giving massages, entertaining through song and dance and being intimate with the dictator and other senior officials.
Dr Edward Howell, lecturer in politics, and expert on North Korea, from the University of Oxford says: “Your chances in life basically depend on how close you are to the North Korean leader / leadership and regime.”
Howell says it’s understood that Jong Un is fond of expensive French wine, a lover of French cheese and leads a very luxurious lifestyle, “he doesn’t care about the livelihood of his population.”

a woman called uh Yoni Park uh was
brought up in uh North Korea she managed
to escape that hell hole uh was
trafficked to China and eventually
managed to escape all the way to America
where she lives a very successful life
uh she’s a YouTuber uh she TS the
schools talks about the hermit Kingdom
Life under uh those appalling uh
dictators that have run that country the
Comm one being called Kim
Jong-un uh now now uh she says that Kim
junun and his acolytes the important
powerful men of North Korea every year
gather up 25 virgin girls to entertain
uh the dictator personally but also
lower down people uh they are apparently
uh they’re called the pleasure Squad and
they’re broken up into three divisions
one specializing in giving massages a
lovely massage and we all like that
actually I don’t like massages I never
have but
that’s another issue perhaps we won’t
talk about that right now because nobody
would care uh another uh division uh
deals in entertaining through song and
dance well that’s all right I suppose
and the third division are the ones who
are prepared to be sexually intimate
with the dictator Kim junun and other
men they apparently tore the country
looking for pretty girls even
schoolyards places like that uh now uh
you know events whatever happens behind
the closed curtain of the hermit kingdom
are cloudy and you never quite know
what’s going on there it is a mysterious
place but we’re going to talk to someone
I think who might be able to help us uh
Dr Edward Howard lecturer in politics
and North he’s a North Korean expert in
particular uh from the University of
Oxford uh Dr Edward Howard thank you
very much for joining us what do you
make of the these stories about the
pleasure
Squad good evening and thanks very much
for for having me on um well these
stories you know have mainly emerged
through North Korean defectors okay who
have defected and left the country very
little is known actually about the inner
workings of these pleasure squads um
they’re not unique also to Kim Jong-un
his father Kim Jong-il and his
grandfather Kim also were known to have
um to have these uh the these these
groups of of women um for their pleasure
um and I think what it highlights very
clearly is that North Korea is a
totalitarian state it’s a totalitarian
state which is one of the worst human
rights violation um violators globally
and what we see reinforced in these in
these stories um is the centrality of
the North Korean leader the Kim okay um
you know this is a country that very
often and rightly so we talk about
nuclear weapons and missiles but we’ve
also got to consider the conditions
within the country and the fact that for
the Kim regime regime survival is vital
and what do they want but they want
utmost control over the North Korean
population and this is what we also see
here so I I mean you know he Kim junun
and his dad before him total and utter
power uh and I suppose when you have
total and utter power uh if perhaps you
are uh not rather nefariously inclined
you and you’re running country uh you’re
go you might want to say well go and get
me a few uh good-look
girls right I mean you know what we need
to also bear in mind is that North
Korean Society is socially stratified so
the society you know the population now
around about 26 million has always been
stratified by how close are you to the
North koreen Leader to the Kim regime
and historically this was to do with
well were your families were were your
ancestors part part of say um a Japanese
resistance movement for instance yeah so
social ties with the Kim regime is very
is very important and what’s interesting
is that a lot of these these women um
who are basically engaging in Acts of
prostitution um offering sexual services
to the north koreen leader and Senior
officials well you know they often marry
into um senior the families of senior
officials as well a party card race or
or military officials um and again it
reinforces the message that North Korean
Society is you know your chances
basically are about how close you are um
to the North Korean leader and the core
leadership that your chances of uh
eeking out some kind of slightly better
life than the rest of the population
what do we know about what do you know
about King junun I mean I mean I hear
that contrary to the lifestyle of his
people uh he’s very fond of very
expensive French wine uh a lover of
great French cheese and frankly lives
high on the hog lives a very luxurious
lifestyle and we now know uh taking in a
har of uh pleasure Squad girls uh not a
very nice
guy yes um and Kim has you know
sacrificed um the livelihood of his 26
million strong population um you know
for um you know for his own benefit
right I mean you know this is how
totalitarian regimes work okay you know
Kim Jong-un very very adamant that he
wants to put his Mark and have a clear
Legacy on North Korea even to
differentiate him from his father and
grandfather um and what also we see is
that actually you know he really does
not care about the livelihood of his
population he’s admitted that his
economic policies recently have not
worked particularly during covid but
he’s not willing um to go the next step
um which is to open up economically or
open up politically for instance yeah
you he’s tried to be more Humane and
more paternal and maternal in how he
portrays himself to his people but
fundamentally this is this is a
totalitarian regime and uh how’s he
getting on on the nuclear front because
if he ever uh gets a nuclear weapon if
he ever develops Warheads I mean the uh
potential of that is quite frightening
isn’t it yes the nuclear development is
very alarming at the moment North Korea
um you know Kim Jong-un in 2021 made
clear he wanted to expand his
conventional and unconventional Arsenal
but what’s even more worrying at the
moment is North Korea’s stronger ties
with Russia which has basically
undermined the United Nations security
Council which has always been really
quite unable to constrain North Korea’s
behavior and now the fact that you know
Russia and North Korea engag in cash for
ammunition exchanges Russia willing to
support North Korea at the UN we’re
basically at a stage when the
International Community is thinking how
can we stop a nuclear North Korea God a
frightening Prospect indeed have you
ever have you been to North Korea abber
so the nature of of my work um involves
a lot of work with um with North Korean
defectors um and with with talking to
sort of international negotiators who
have who have worked um with North Korea
I’ve written a book about it as well um
the subtitle of my book is when bad
behavior pays What’s the title of the
book so people know uh what the title of
the book is North Korea and the global
nuclear order when bad behavior pays and
really I think that’s the message of the
North Korean regime at the moment and it
always has been to try and get away with
behaving delinquently in international
relations both in the nuclear realm and
in terms of the human rights realm so
that it can ultimately benefit and who
benefits not the people but the but
those in charge uh we’ve only got a
minute left but I I don’t think you
quite caught my question have you have
you ever been to North Korea so
personally I I haven’t been to North
very few people have and what’s
interesting is that actually um you know
that raises a very important point which
is North Korea’s borders North Korea’s
borders really um they might open up
likely they’ll open up later this year
but actually North Korea remains very
closed during Co it shut its borders
completely and they’re only starting to
reopen and who has North Korea opened
its borders mainly to China Russia Cuba
listen Edward uh excellent to talk you
really interesting let’s talk again
thank you very much for your time that’s
Dr Edward how from the University of
Oxford for

N.Korea is the weakest link in the axis of evil
Who is the most evil? Russia, China, Iran, N.Korea, Syria, Belarus, Venezuela or Cuba?
Kim Jon un is no worse than Sunak and they are both cruel ready to be brutal to people
Really, and this is news? Anyone would think the UK US collective west were a paragon of virtue lol, there's enough dirt there to fill a canyon. Good distraction from the Israeli occupation, genocide, the ongoing holocaust in Gaza Palestine of the Palestinian people, the famine on civilians, which we witness daily, on alternative media, funded by the US, UK. Or the US NATO UK cabal war against Russia, using Ukraine as a means to end, which is over all bar the shouting. Not reported on by any legacy bought and paid for media.
Did he forget to turn the face filter off?
