Americans drinking more wine and the
French drinking less means the United
States last year overtook France for the
first time the US is now the world’s top
market for wine though the French still
drink more per capita with weekly
consumption around six times The
American Average the figures come from
the international wine and Vine
organization which says worldwide
consumption dropped slightly last year
us drinkers bought just over 29 million
hectoliters up half a percent from 2012
French cons ion fell nearly 7% to 28.1
million of the top four Italians drank
less wine in Germany consumption Rose
slightly California wine maker Anthony
riboli says the increase reflects the
fact that Americans are now less
intimidated by wine in the past I think
wine was very much you know highend very
expensive that was the connotation now I
think you’re seeing people just hey I
can get a great bottle of wine for under
$20 under $15
and or a glass of wine at dinner you
know those are the the
changing uh Trends in the industry and I
think those Trends are here to stay
people are embracing wine as a national
beverage the United States was the top
importer in terms of value of wines last
year worldwide less wine was produced in
2012 and so exports last year fell by
just over 2% but producers were able to
charge more and the value of that trade
was up by 1 a half% a a big
disappointment for the industry the
Chinese whose consumption rapidly
increased from the turn of the century
seem to be losing their taste sales in
China fell by nearly 4% last year no

  1. Lol i love to see the American media being proud of that kind of things… They're always proud when Merica is number one even though it's in the bad way xD
Beside, The US might be the biggest wine market in the world (Which is legit as American people are 5 time more than the French) but in term of wine consumption per capita, French people own them…
