with John Johnson at The Wine Rack in Louisville, KY
Tim L with you again on secrets of
Bluegrass chefs it’s time now for
another wine find for that we head over
to the wine rack with John Johnson on
Frankfurt Avenue this time for wine
finds I have two wines that I consider
to be just such crazy values that I just
have to share them with you one is from
one of our favorite white wine
categories especially for spring and
summer and that’s the category of gruner
veler so that’s the great uh gruner
veler is from Austria it is a white wine
that is similar to a San Blanc it’s
bright it’s Lively lighter bodied but
it’s a little different in terms of
flavor profile than sa Blanc there’s
this nice like white pepper and
sometimes like cracked fresh green bean
quality in the aroma along with good
Citrus sometimes tropical fruit
sometimes a little bit of Orchard fruit
as well there’s a quality about them
that makes them go exceptionally well
with things that are hard to pair wines
with in particular uh bitter greens
whether you’re talking asparagus or just
spinach or some any kind of arugula
something that’s got a lot of bitterness
to it and that’s one reason chefs really
love grer velner and have been leading
that charge for a long time uh we happen
to have a great deal on this uh for this
moment and we’ll have it as long as we
do then when it’s gone it’s gone and
that’s $9.99 for a one liter it’s
actually one of my favorite bruners
under $20 period and you can get it
while we have it for $9.99 the next wine
is p Noir so Peno much better known than
gruner Viner um this wine called Rick
Shaw P Noir is California P Noir this
wine is $10.99 a bottle which is almost
unheard of for good quality Pina Noir in
this day and age it’s Pina Noir that’s
sourced predominantly from the Sonoma
Coast a little bit from monay a little
bit from down around Santa Barbara uh it
spends 11 months in a combination of
French Oak and stainless steel tanks uh
has a nice little velvety touch to it a
lot of almost Jammy raspberry fruit some
black cherry uh there’s a little bit of
smokiness to it and a little bit of
spice too and it is just I think a
knockout for that $10.99 price point so
come on by the wine rack check out these
incredible value wines and all the great
values we have for you here we think
you’re going to like what you find
cheers thanks John and stick around for
