    The cabin seems narrow on this A350 and the particular reverse herringbone pod design seems to have really tight seats and the window ones almost impossible to get out of in lie-flat position. I frankly don’t think I could lie there without an intense feeling of confinement. Sort of like an MRI machine or a coffin with the lid open. That and no air movement, I’ll give this design on this aircraft a miss. The food looked OK for a 6 hr 40 min flight (did anyone else hear the purser’s announcement at the beginning?), but I don’t many would eat twice in such a short time. I’ve flown AF’s B777s from LAX to CDG and found the seats much more comfortable and spacious than this A350, which sort of alternates pods in the cabin. The longer flight had, of course, 2 proper meal services with plenty of time to sleep.

    I had horrible experience flying Air France Business Class CDG-DXB. Worst business class i have ever flown: dirty cabin, horrible service, horrible amenities (if any), horrible food which was barely edible and had zero presentation, hostile cabin attendant who just radiated this “better-than-thou” French attitude. At some point I was wondering if I was serving them or they were serving me. Air france is in an absolutely pathetic state despite their new products: good hardware is a must, but good seat alone does not make a good flight. Without good service, they won’t get anywhere.

    Note that Air France and KLM only offer free seat selection for longhaul J on routes that are covered by their joint venture with Delta and Virgin Atlantic: other longhaul routes do charge for seat selection unless you have SkyTeam elite status.

    If I'm not mistaken, LVMH has an exclusive deal with Emirates which prevents their brands from being served in the air on other airlines (at least officially, I guess: nothing stopping catering from providing it, though it might not be printed on the menu).

    The tray service is AF's standard on the shorter transatlantic redeyes (BOS, YUL, YYZ, YOW, YQB, JFK, EWR; maybe DTW or IAD also). A drawn out 2 hour service for anyone in J is likely to make it difficult to impossible to get sleep on a sub-6 hour redeye. They do the coursed-out service on the daytime flights and longer redeyes (e.g. LAX, SFO, MEX…).

    When I flew the A350 to Paris a year ago, I found that the seat was quite uncomfortable to sleep in due to the proximity of the seatbelt in the seat back.

    So weird how this is a totally different seat to the A350-900 I flew a few days ago (that one had a suite door, electronic windows)
