021 This week, April finishes the curtains and we show what we pack in our suitcases. Some of the items are just things we found in the US and thought it’d be nice to have in France. Some of the things we just haven’t found in France. Regardless, we’re to head back to our little stonehouse.
Thanks again for watching,
Michael and April
Description of Us:
We are a couple of American Francophiles who have come to truly appreciate so many things about French culture. We love the food, wine, art, and history of France, but especially the people we have met along the way. Join us as we make our dream of living in France a reality. Follow us as we explore the French living and a new life there with our beloved dog, Bernice. We enjoy learning about stone house renovation, wine, cooking, brocante shopping, and the French community we are now a part of.
I have two panels all I have to do is get the link right so I think I’m going to cut 82 I’m attempting to make more neutral our window coverings and so I already did lace panels for the windows so they have like small bars on them um like the cafe Rod
Type and I already did lace inset panels for those and these will be the no actual privacy and um window covering so I’m going to take about oh well it’s a little more than 20 in off one and I just have to turn up the the other and this will this will
Bring our color palette into neutrality this is’s a little orange so we’re going to just start and I really like these cuz they’re they’re linen so it’s fun to work on these things even though we’re not at the house right now so I’m going to just take these and shorten them and
Then I’m using the excess to make the rest I I used the same linen for the bathroom um curtains as well for the under the counter and for the curtain that goes across the water heater and um for the windows that are in the bathroom so I have a bunch
Pre-made this is my last two sets that I have to do and then we should have some very light French looking coverings so that’s what I have to do so I have to just measure these to the 82 and hem the bottom so I have my little rotary cutter in mat that
I’m going to use for that cuz it makes really nice straight cuts okay line that up okay so we’re getting really excited because we are going to leave um the day after tomorrow and so we thought we’d kind of go through the what we have
Packed in the why so um okay this is kind of okay it’s a little embarrassing but a lot of this stuff is difficult to find in France so one thing that we needed for our sinks and things are these mesh um catchers because there’s no garbage disposals in France they’re not legal
There so um well I’m sure there’s some there but they’re they’re illegal to use and um so it helps just to catch um all the debris and stuff and I wasn’t sure and these came in a multi pack so um I got the sizes they’re very lightweight
So that’s good we got a garlic press um a small spatula to fit in the smaller drawer um some tongs which were kind of hard to find there um you know just the basics that you need for your kitchen the meat thermometer um mini grater and
Then and you know some toiletry kind of things that are a little tricky to find moisturizer and lint brushes and um Hydro cortisone cream I I never did find it my favorite hairspray um these are all things we’re going to take and then just leave when we get there now this
One’s a little strange um maybe but uh we love Mexican food and especially uh tamales and so we’re bringing Mona which is lard and um over here there is a secret bag of uh Masa and so we can make tortilla and um we can also make the um Dali with
That so you know just the basics um then we have um another set of sheets because um the sheets in France are not quite as um High thread count and so these feel really nice and um I washed them all up and they’re ready to
Go so we have sheets in here and then I just um got some kitchen towels and Dish rags and things um this one is a little silly but it’s magnets for the shower curtain to weit it down um yeah just a thermal cup and of course um we got to
Prepare for the little girl our dog and so we we brought her bones we have some several um the the larger and the smaller and then we have her prescription food here as well um you can see the curtains that I made are here for all the different places
The bathroom the stairway the bedrooms and then because we’re going to be putting in the garden I got some garden gloves and we have a TV wall mount um we have a new shower curtain and then the really tough to find rug um this one’s a washable rug which is really great um
The rugs there or the washers there our washer in our house is small but what’s really cool is they have like these larger um washers just outside where you get groceries and so you can go and throw in like your um duvet and and the larger things that you need to wash and
Then um you can wash them and dry them there or you can just wash them and bring them home and throw them on the line so um I got a washable rug for the kitchen um and then this is the other style of curtains that I hemmed and made
To the right side they just have like a linen background and a print so we’ll see we’ll see how this look I’m a little nervous um and then uh sun hat because we’ll be hopefully getting Sun at some point there and then um these are um screens so there can be some
Problematic insects and so we have screens for the back living room they’re the magnetic like um they open and close and then come back together so you can just go free them if you have things in your hands and so I got those couple of
Those um this is a book on yede that’s in French it’s for our neighbors Remy and beatric um because we want them to come see us here and more curtains yes there’s a lot of curtains so we still have to put in our clothes um I have my
Um hiking boots that I want to get back in here and um Bernice’s food her canned food still needs to go in so we still have you know just a few thises and thats but we are just sort of kind of thinking about okay what are we bringing
And just dropping off and um what are we putting up there to make it feel a little bit more like home and one really cool thing about the suitcases um is that we when we come back we fold them and put them inside of the others so that we only have to check
One back on the way back usually so that helps um so the next time that we will be making a video it will be us getting back to char to call and to the house um so that’s really exciting and we’re going to walk you through what it takes
To reopen the house after it’s been by itself for a little bit um but we’re just uh really grateful and super excited to be back back in France and just showing you some of our um trials tribulations and Adventures so I look forward to seeing you soon on F

Well, I remember a great uncle and a great ant of mine in the 70s, going to the States with their camembert and saucisson ! The essentials, and much lighter ! Thank you for your wonderful videos.
And sorry for the automatic corrector. It's french.
Nous vous attendons 😁
This is interesting. After several hot and bug-filled nights in France last summer, truly do not understand the hate for screens! Will be interested to see how yours work so I can use when I finally find my French place.
I would love to know what the name of the screens are! There are none in the UK!
Can't wait for your next video!😊
I watch someone on you tube that lives in Italy but her family is in England. When she visits she shops for the things she cannot get in Italy. I guess you will figure it out.😊
Hello so good to see you! Love your videos❤
You may want to consider bringing: Heavy Reynolds aluminum wrap, a fav cling wrap too. I made insect screens about 11€ a single window kit at Action ( and Brico) stores starting in May here. If you eventually ship a container, you can bring US lamps. You just need to change the plug and light bulb to one’s from here. Very easy.
