Does anyone else think it’s weird that some accents are more attractive than others like people will consistently rank French as a more attractive language than German and a common explanation for that is oh German is a harsh language but there’s no linguistic basis for that claim German can actually

Be a beautiful poetic language contrary to popular opinion there’s nothing in its sound that makes it less attractive instead it’s all in how we stereotype the speakers of these languages like the Spanish Italian and French accents are considered more attractive because their countries are associated with things

Like romance culture art and wine and because of this effect a lot of First World countries have accents that tend to be regarded as more attractive for example every single country that Britain colonized agrees that the British accent is hot and at its core this basically comes down to sociol

Linguistic data issues where colonized countries still associate their colonizers with greater wealth and culture this is called a Prestige dialect and it’s the same reason why many people found the Transatlantic accent to be more attractive it was associated with a higher social class so he created this narrative that it sounds better

  1. There are linguistical differences which make accents "hot" or not in the eye of the listener. Romance languages are analytical languages so their grammar disallows change in favor of better flow and pronounciation so their speakflow and accent is generelly more melodic and accentuation+cadence become more important than the word itself. This results in audially more pleasing spoken language which transfers to the speakers in other languages

  2. me and my girlfriend met in school and we took German classes together. i find the language so romantic and the first time i ever said i love you to her i said it in German and izzy if you see this Ich liebe dich

  3. Oh great. It’s less the German language being unattractive but rather the Germans spreading it. xD

  4. My dad is Latino and I don’t have an attraction to Spanish accent despite my daddy issues. However my first love is Slovenian so now I have an inexplicable attraction to Eastern European accents

  5. I don't find any accent attractive, I just like some languages more than other but it's not about attractiveness

  6. The accent I find most attractive (as a straight man) is from a place where most people/foreigners think the landscape is beautiful and that the people there are known for being drunks,

    Irish and Scottish accents

  7. As a Brazilian, I gotta say we're winning these. I mean, every lusófono country agrees we're the hottest accent around and they MEAN it

  8. Oh shut up. My country was colonised by the British, but the only reason I like the British accent is because I had a crush on Hermione when I was a kid, and I like the Australian accent even more. I don't think Australians ever colonised India. Throw away these fake psychoanalyses. Also, German does have harsher sounds, because they use far less ত and দ sounds (I don't know international characters for them) than French and Spanish and Italian, which are full of those sounds. And those are objectively softer sounds than their harder counterparts.

  9. I used to think that German was harsh, but I have a 170 streak on Duolingo learning it and I have fallen in love with it. It’s beautiful. Crazy, but beautiful.

  10. I don't think I can say what accents are hot based on country because evercounrty has alot of accents. I don't know the name of most of them

  11. WHAT, am I the only one that finds the accents of French, Italian, and Spanish people grotesque but the accents of German people beautiful?

  12. May i use this video as an essay as to why i hate the french language and accent? They are way too romanticized and does not deserve it
