About Me: I live in NYC and I’m about food, travel and work.

One of the most notable French beastro style restaurants in New York City has to be frenchette in 2019 The Establishment won the coveted James Beard award for best new restaurant and was the recipient of numerous glowing reviews I just had to check it Out it’s beautiful and sunny winter day here in New York City right now I’m in the neighborhood of Tribeca and I just had a very delightful lunch at one of the city’s most notable French beastro type restaurants it’s a place called frenchette in 2019 frenchette even won

The James Beard award for best new restaurant that’s a pretty big deal frenchette has also received a number of other accolades but the long and short of it is it’s a goodlooking restaurant and I’ve always wanted to eat there today I got my chance now one of the

Reasons why I decided to dine at frenchette today is because they’re a participant in New York City’s restaurant week and their Restaurant Week menu seemed like it was a pretty good deal as a result I came down here to try Becca went to frenchette for lunch and partook in a very nice meal

This was my lunch at frenchette frenchette is located in the Tribeca neighborhood of Manhattan in fact it’s only a block away from The Old Firehouse that served as the Ghostbusters headquarters from the movie The Restaurant open in 2018 from chefs rayen Nasser and Lee Hansen who previously worked at a number of notable

New York City restaurants such as balazar and manetta Tavern frenchette was a near instant success as it received three stars from The New York Times and later the James Beard award for best new restaurant Nar and Hansen named their establishment after a 1978 David Johansson song of the same name

While I normally would have procured a reservation frenchette unfortunately has a two-person reservation minimum on resi however their beautiful looking bar is open open for walk-ins but his luck would have it a table was available in the main dining room so I took it frenchette is a nice looking restaurant

But it sort of restrains compared to other beos and brasseries the lighting has that classic orangey sort of glow and I kind of felt like I was dining at a restaurant in the film Midnight in Paris overall I like the look and feel of frenchette but unfortunately the

Cushion bench I sat on was kind of a pain in the ass there was a bit of a hump between the two sections of the bench which met right where the middle of my table was sadly because of a support column on the other side of the table the restaurant can’t really move

The table to a better position while I could have just switched to the chair opposite me I stuck it out for the better lighting and less distracting background for the sake of the video looking over the menu frenchette serves a number of the typical French beastro Classics but there are certainly

Numerous courses that stand out such as the buad the dish is typically one that requires a great deal of attention to get right as eggs are repeatedly stirred over a low flame until they have a creamy texture almost like grits then pad and snails are added to complete

What seems like a simple course but one that in reality Demands a notable effort I was at French head however for the restaurant Week menu which consisted of an appetizer entree and dessert for $60 in terms of beverages The Establishment is well known for their natural wine program but to save a

Little money I just stuck with water I didn’t have to wait long for my starter to be presented I got the soup to pant which is a fish soup with a saffron ioli for a soup it had a nice look and was a decent portion size I was eager to give

It a try and I wasn’t disappointed the dish had a wonderful flavor it was definitely fishy but I mean that in the best possible way it tasted like a creamy rich and pungent burst of the sea the texture of the broth was ideal it was silky and smooth and not some watery

Dribble in the center of the bowl was a toasted baguette s slic tupped with the saffron ioli the bread was nice as it lent another textural dimension and I wouldn’t have minded if it was even a bit larger the saffron aoli was pleasant as well it contributed a nice creaminess to the

Broth overall I was really happy with my choice of an appetizer it was a great start to my lunch for my main course I went with a dish that I’ve never had nor can I call seen it offered very often at restaurants it was the duck keset with

Tarbet beans so it to lose and a kit lamb rib kesay originated long ago in southern France mainly as rich and Hearty home-cooked fair but frenchette took their version to a fine dining level that still pays respect to the classic essence of the dish now it’s not

The prettiest course but it was never meant to be when I took my first bite the dish was piping hot as it should have been the beans were nice and Rich but damn it was hot at least it was a good bite though I next tried a bit of the sausage

And it was great as well in essence a coule is really a course filled with a variety of delicious slow cooked food all tied together in the fashion of a comforting stew there was however no denying that the duck was the star of the plate and it didn’t

Disappoint the duck meat was cooked perfectly it was fallof the bone tender and delicious in fact every single component of the coule was executed to Perfection still the duck was the standout protein on the plate however the meat from the lamb Rib was pretty stellar as

Well it was juicy and tender just like the duck and had a great taste considering the dish as a whole I really enjoyed it the coule was hearty rich and comforting I felt like I should have been eating the course in a small cozy cabin on the French Countryside

With a toasty fire crackling before me and a glass of sarra in my hand it really was a joy to eat if I had to Levy a complaint against the dish is that I felt that it could have used a bit more seasoning now I’m not talking about salt but rather I

Thought that the food could use some sort of spice herb or seasoning just to give everything a bit more pop nevertheless I was pretty happy with the coule finally it was time for dessert I went with a chocolate mousse with Creme Fresh chantilli and Coco nibs it was certainly

An appetizing dish and I couldn’t wait to give it a Try no surprise it was delicious it delivers on everything that one could expect from a chocolate mousse the chocolate flavor was on point and well balanced the mousse was nice smooth and creamy it was the perfect texture however I enjoyed how the cocoa nibs added a crunchy element in addition

To a stronger chocolate flavor the creme fresh was another welcome element as it provided a sort of contrast to the chocolatey flavors of the dessert it really was the ideal treat to end my meal with although I couldn’t help but think how nice the dish would have paired with coffee but

Unfortunately my server never came around to ask me if I wanted to drink anything with my dessert in fact the only times I saw her during the course of my meal was when she took my order and handed me the check while I never had any problems throughout the duration

Of my lunch I feel that it sort of expected to check in on diners periodically still the food was at least delivered to my table promptly and I planned on making a trip to The Laffy man Cafe for my caffeine fix anyways after finishing my dessert it was time

For the bill which total to $65 32 cents but with my tip I spent about 78 bucks compared to how the courses I enjoyed are normally priced outside of the restaurant Week menu I thought that that was pretty good value in summation my lunch at frenchette was a good

One so that was really nice I really enjoyed all the food I had the atmosphere was really Pleasant it was uh definitely a great start to my afternoon I really like their menu there are a lot of appealing dishes on there that I would have loved to have tried now the

Dinner menu obviously does look a little bit better but that’s to be expected and still there are definitely plenty of great options available for lunch however frenchette is clearly a costly restaurant and some of those dishes kind of seem a bit overpriced for one thing the restaurant doesn’t serve one of

Those kind of complimentary bread baskets but you can order it allart for a cost now a lot of these modern restaurants do this and I don’t like paying for bread but I will if it seems worth it French head’s bread will set one back $11 and to me it just doesn’t

Seem worth it I saw people get it in the restaurant and it looked all right but it doesn’t look like it’s worth $11 and that’s just one example it is a costly restaurant for sure however the restaurant Week menu now that was a great deal I had no problem paying that

Bill today I mean that duck dish I had that would have set me back $54 if I would have gotten that off the regular menu without a doubt frenchette is a good spot for Restaurant Week now comparing frenchette to some of the other notable French Beast Ros in New

York City it’s hard to say because there’s a lot that I haven’t been to yet but all I can say is I really enjoyed my lunch at French hat today except that seat I was sitting on now that was a pain in the ass but overall I think

French is pretty nice French beastro restaurant and I definitely would like to return Someday

  1. Interesting you mentioned that your main course was served “piping hot”. In the last few years, my wife and i find that even the best restaurants serve so many meals that come out luke warm or cold. While we dont want to be complainers, we have become more assertive at sending such meals back, especially if michelin star or just expensive.

  2. Excellent review James! It's ironic that you lucked out with the duck cassoulet (duck meat, beans and a pork sausage). It is such a mainstay of French cuisine to the extent that the French military has a version of duck cassoulet in their MRE/military rations (canned). Glad you enjoyed the fresh version!!

  3. I dont think it can be best french cuz such a small menu. And the price is pretty good for french especially a three course. By the way did you order from prixe fix menu?

  4. Honestly your soup did not look appetizing at all…then again I’m not a big fish person. I am however a bit of a “Princess and the pea” in case you know that fairy tale and there is absolutely no way I could have endured sitting on that seat! 😆The chocolate mousse looks good but the waitress a no show is a no go for me. Thanks for sharing.

  5. Another fine episode, James ! The food looked good . Cassoulet is always a desirable choice on a French restaurant menu . Yes , they don't look after us guys dining alone . It's always a wobbly table , or an uncomfortable chair . When I was married , she didn't want to go out to restaurants . You just can't win ! I hope you get the chance to go to Paris one day and do a food review . You'll love it ! All the best !

  6. Nice video. Wise move taking advantage of going to Frenchette during restaurant week. I like the duck that you selected, would have been my first choice too.

  7. I know why the waitress didn't check in on you, it's because you went as part of a restaurant deal, and she wasn't going to make a larger tip.

  8. Well done, James. That dessert looked like it would give a dead man Diabetes, lol. Stay safe and keep up the great work.

  9. If your server wax French, that explains everything. I ran French restaurants in London. That’s just the French style of service. If she was American, then it really wasn’t proper service. I enjoyed the review again by the way. Hopefully you had a great marathon in Nashville.

  10. I have a shirt EXACTLY What your wearing. Good taste in clothes and menu choices. Looked delicious especially the mousse and fish soup

  11. This restaurant gets bonus points for having tarte tropezienne on the menu. So delicious but I never see it in America! Although no free bread should be illegal in a French restaurant.

  12. Didn't you over tipped!? Considering she never checked how's your meal or if you need a drink or not?

  13. Most French restaurants are not cheap. The background in there looked basic but something that you would find in the Left Bank in Paris. I was wondering too if they gave you that table anyway because people in the past have complained about it too. That seat cushion.

  14. How could you not figure out that the sparse waiter presence was part of the restaurant's simulation of French style? Countries outside of the United States do not have overbearing waiters that check on you all of the time.
