In the viticulture sector, packaging stands as a pivotal concern, accounting for 30 to 40% of the industry’s carbon emissions. To advance towards effective decarbonization, it’s imperative to focus on this aspect while also considering all sources of greenhouse gas emissions. With this in mind, Adelphe, the eco-organization dedicated to minimizing the environmental impact of household packaging in the wine and spirits sector (through recycling, eco-design, and reuse), initiated a project in 2021 aimed at supporting a significant French wine-producing region in its contemplation of a decarbonization strategy aligned with the Paris Agreement’s 1.5°C objectives. The Burgundy Wines, backed by their interprofessional office, the BIVB, have committed to this approach.

Following more than two years of collaborative efforts, the BIVB, Adelphe, and FoodPilot have crafted an action plan with the Burgundy Wines targeting carbon neutrality by 2035, alongside an evaluation and management tool for the 3,800 Burgundian estates, cooperatives, and merchants.

WinePilot, the solution specifically developed by Food Pilot for the wine sector, is a tool for managing progress in terms of corporate social responsibility (CSR). It enables companies to assess their products, define improvement plans, and monitor their evolution, from vine to finished product. WinePilot is available in two versions: a simplified version, focused on decarbonization, intended for all professional and interprofessional actors to orchestrate decarbonization at the scale of their territory; and a complete version, addressing all environmental and social impacts, designed for large companies in the sector, allowing them to manage both their decarbonization and all their CSR commitments.
