During The 16 th Century, the wine estate we know as Chateau Beychevelle was owned by French Noblemen. Boats on River Gironde passing the vineyard would lower sails to half mast in respect of the noble family. Thus, a name and a distinctive label were born. “Baisse Voile” is the French term for “Lower the Sails” and Beychevelle is the word / image that eventually emerged. Today, the St. Julien Grand Cru Classe Estate of Chateau Beychevelle is owned by two corporate powerhouses making capital investments that have allowed longtime Managing Director Philippe Blanc to implement his passion for creative winemaking techniques. David Kohl tasted the 2022 Chateau Beychevelle during En Primeur Week and believes that it has the potential to rival the legendary 1982 vintage. #chateaubeychevelle #grandcruclasse #bordeauxwine #winehistory #bordeauxappellations
So what’s a grap export talking about today well we are back to our Bordeaux ground crew series and we are featuring a wine today that’s one of my special special wines that I love in s julan it’s called chatau bashel and here we have chatau bashel 2018 they were
Actually featuring in this video it’s one of the rock stars of the 18 vintage and if you’re not familiar with um with s Julien or bashal we’re going to show you on the big map here San julen is right below Pak and you can see the arrow right here it points to this
Little green area here and that is s Julien and its proximity to the river and the proximity to the river is also an interesting history for bashel because if you look on this label it has a beautiful picture of a boat and basically uh when Boats were passing by
Bashel and we’re talking about the 16th century uh they were ordered um to lower their sales and you can see this is actually a um half sale on this boat and it’s uh in French they call it a bol uh so that’s where they get the term bevel
And this property is owned by the two Powerhouse companies you got Castell and you got santor which is also one of the biggest powerhouses in uh in Japan they are uh one of the largest um if you want to say alcohol companies in the world
And you also have uh Castel fra which is one of the biggest french wine companies so these two companies have developed this property and they are syncing investments in I also wanted to highlight something really cool uh this one of the first books that ever had this is Hugh Johnson’s uh wine
Encyclopedia and what Hugh does is a great job because he takes the maps of each appala and you can see clearly where chatau bevel is in line with the river and it’s also in line with du crew and you can see that as you’re driving in this area there’s actually a little
Sign they’ll say that you’ll be entering bevel and then bashel will be off to the right and it is just a fabulous um property that they’ve just um uh made major major investments in and we also wanted to at least talk about the managing director so Philly
Blonc is the talent that is the wine maker director here um and he’s also at LR because he works for santor and his job and his mission was to make B back again make it great again and he has done that because now now we’re talking
Uh in the last four years they’ve really been on their game but guess what 2022 got a chance to taste this wine it was fabulous and and just blue fruits red fruits all sorts of graphite in the nose that s Julian Tera that just has that silkiness to it all wrapped in all
Course with flowers these beautiful floral scents that you would get with these uh fruits and mineral tone and bright acidity and I think the 2022 is going to be very memorable um I scored that wine 97 98 points with a plus and I think it’s going to be one of the stars
In s Julien next to our neighbor du crew and them are duking it out to try to make really really great wines and but I wanted to highlight because this is one of my favorite wines I think the 22 is going to rival the 82 it’s one of the
Finest uh B Chels made again this is a grape Explorer talking about gr crew Class A talking about great wines and talking about beautiful wines
