We spent 5 days touring 4 different Christmas Markets in Germany, France, and Switzerland. Check out the video to see our favorite (and not so favorite) things about each market.
Strasbourg Hotel – Hotel Cour Du Corbeau
Little town it’s a quiet Village we are the Wayans a family of three that loves to skip work and skip school to travel the world there’s nothing more exciting than hearing a new language tasting a new food or chasing a new experience on this trip join us as we visit Rothenberg
Germany straber and colmer France and Zurich Switzerland in search of our favorite Christmas Market all right we just got to Rothenberg and we stopped at the first Christmas Market we have our hot chocolate and Rowan had to have a Nutella crepe so good it’s delicious had one bite but it is definitely a lot busier than it was in March um not like unbearable busy but
Definitely busier um we’re going to walk around the city and we’re going to show you guys some of our favorite spots that we hit last Time Kathy wolfart is a Christmas store with beautiful ornaments and decorations but videos weren’t allowed inside if you miss it in Rothenberg don’t worry because there are popups in strawsburg and Zurich at Christmas time also a Musto in Rothenberg is a medieval crime museum so since we only
Had three hours here today we just opted for Market food to eat but if you’re looking for a sit down restaurant we highly recommend Zer hole we went here last time we were in and the food is delicious especially the venison stew and R what did you have steak kebabs the
Steak kebabs were so good um so if you’re looking for a sit down restaurant this is the place to Go what do you think about Rothenberg it is amazing why is it amazing all the food is delicious and it’s so scenic last time Rowan got a little wild at the park so she had to take it easy this time this is so fun after a 3-hour car ride we made it
To straussburg so we’re staying at hotel Cordo corbau and I’m probably butchering that pronunciation so we’re going to link it below the hotel is beautiful it was it dates back to um the 1600s and it’s full of character on the exterior and the interior so come on and take a look at
Our hotel room they have these really pretty exposed beams and a huge bed I swear it’s like a California king equivalent the bathroom has two vanities a huge bath and a nice shower and it also has a towel warmer which is so nice but the best part of the hotel room is
This balcony now you do share it with other people like anyone can walk out on the balcony but it feels like you’re right in a fairy tale Story All right so we’re starting our first full day in strawberg and we got out early today because the markets run from 11:30 to 900 p.m. but we wanted to beet the crowds so we left the hotel around 9:30ish um and it already starting a little bit like there’s a little bit of
A crowd going already not too bad though so we’re going to take a look at the Cathedral this morning and then we also wanted to stop by the big tree because at night it gets really congested and we’re just going do some sightseing R what are you looking forward to
Today the bookstore that’ll be first on our list too my favorite part about vacation of the bookstores and another one and another one right now we’re walking through Petite France and it’s so pretty they have so many old buildings really beautiful river running through it um it’s a good
Place just to take a Stroll it literally feels like little town it’s a quiet Village every day like the one Before that’s enough cut all right so it’s time for us to get some snackies in Rowan’s on her like 4 crepe in two days it’s out of control but I wanted to go for the vinod we got a Rouge and we got a Blanc and I’m not
Normally a wine drinker so I don’t know if I have like high expectations I prefer beer and it’s also not even noon yet so this is like out of character but let’s see it smells really good really like spicy it’s definitely a burning there it’s good though it’s um very christmy
Tasting let’s try the um white one I think I might like the white one better yeah I prefer the white it almost tastes more like juice compared to Wine but it’s delicious ruin oh my gosh it’s on chocolate aftermath yeah 19 20 21 22 23 I have counted but it’s
330 so we just went inside the Cathedral of Notre going inside is free but then if you want to do the outside Ascension um to a viewing platform that was $21 to the three of us it was 3 like 30 steps I think and it was a workout so um R
Actually handle it like a champ though so you can definitely do it with kids it’s really really pretty though the view is spectacular on right here something really cool to see when you get to the top are the inscriptions carved into the stones and they date back to
1552 um the guards were former stone masons and they would carve tourist’s names into the stone in exchange for a Tip Okay so I got the spitzel with cream sauce and mushrooms it smells delicious is so good so Savory smooth delicious cheesy so Good I got a h and Che sandwich and I’m really excited try she’s had three Crepes and now real food really good all right so I got a sugar donut pretzel I had one of these in Athens over summer and it was delicious and I’ve been thinking about it everything it’s really
Good I think it would be even better War good though so we walking through the Christmas markets a lot and we want to find somewhere to sit down and eat but the problem we’re running into is that most places are closed between 2: p.m. and 7:00 p.m. and it’s a Monday and most
Places are closed on Monday so we’re going to see what we can find of course while we’re searching for dinner Ron would find a toy Store Well everything is still closed and we couldn’t find a c down restaurant so we’re on to create number three of the Day all right we found an Indian restaurant that we think we can get into we don’t need reservations wish us Luck so guys we just finished dinner at Tamil the Indian restaurant that I was talking about and it was delicious we got here and they could get us in which was a miracle the food was so good we started with samosas and then we had a chi masala
And it came with dessert too but we were so full we couldn’t even eat it but it was delicious definitely check it out if you’re out [Applause] here so we’re making this type of candy shop a tradition we had it in Croatia this past summer and then we also had
Something similar in grease when we were in but um be very careful because last time we went in here it was like 80 for the three of us to get candy and it was unexpected let’s just say that I think you ordered a slice of strudel and you actually bought the whole
Cake desperate times call for desperate measures so tiny I’m going to be here all night so we just arrived in comr we took a train from sturg to comr it was a super easy process we bought our tickets online and it was a 30 minute train ride
Once you get here it’s about a 10-minute walk into the Oldtown If you’re looking for the place that feels most like Beauty and the Beast I would say cmer is the winner over Strawberg All right so we just got to the Christmas Market and we got an outstation coffee which is like coffee with liquor and with cream on top it looks delicious it’s warm and then we got pork cheeks with spel and it looks delicious so let’s fight in tastes exactly like pot
Delicious all right let’s try the SP I have to say I think the food quality at the colmer market is better than the food quality at the um strawberg market like strawberg almost feels like fast food and this one feels more like homecooked meals it’s really really really good all right now the
Outstation coffee but I have a feeling it’s going to be very strong wow oh dear God that burn is going down it is super super strong but it’s good the coffee is tastes like really quality coffee and the whipped cream is probably the best whipped cream I’ve ever had it’s really
Thick but um there’s a lot of liquor in there so I ordered this in French and I’m really excited to eat it it’s Cheeseburger is it amazing it’s Amazing Help Hold On all right it’s a little bit crazy it’s like Instagram versus reality this is a reality so we’ve been in CER for a few hours now walking around and I have to say I think is a little bit more of our style than ster just because it’s a
Little bit more intimate there’s crowds aren’t as big and there’s a lot more options for sitting down at cafes and people watching we’ve really enjoyed it so Far so at the end of our time in comr we found um just a little restaurant to sit down and eat dinner in it was really easy to find some place there it wasn’t nearly as packed as strawberg but on the way out we decided to get a gingerbread
Man and then we decided we should have a little competition so this is the strawberg gingerbread man and this is the colmer gingerbread man and we’re going to have a taste test competition you ready run yeah which one should we start with ummer hmer all right okay oh wow it’s definitely denser than
I thought it was going to be very very softer smells different than normal gingerbread I feel like yeah all right see it let’s do oh sorry I don’t know about this not my favorite um it almost tastes licoricey and it’s very very dense and dry yeah not a
Fan what do you think R I’ll okay so clear C we weren’t a fan of colmer but strawberg seems a little bit um less dense so I have High Hopes there you go all right ready cheers I gotta be honest I don’t like either I don’t like either of them I
Think I’m so used to Little Debbie gingerbread men that these are just they’re very dense and they’re a lot drier than I was expecting so I just think gingerbread might not be my thing what do you think yeah you’re agree yeah sorry so we just got to zurk tonight and
We’ve been walking around some of the markets and I’m starting to feel like the um like the markets in every different city have their own identity and these ones I’m starting to realize I love because they have so many different cultures of food so I got some dumplings
With um chili sauce and I’m super excited to try these they’re delicious they’re so Savory definitely just like a pot sticker a chili sauce super spicy but not overwhel overwhelmingly spicy just a red of melt very very good Heart And the nature All right so we’re excited for our first day in Zurich we’re going to head out to um a cafe that looks like it’s really cutely decorated for Christmas then we’re going to head to some Christmas markets and do a little shopping and Eating all right so we just stopped in this Cafe for coffee I’m going to show you the name so I’m not sure how to pronounce it but it’s absolutely adorable like it’s here all year round but it almost looks like a Christmas popup shop because they decorate it so christmy um
We heard it has the best hot chocolate in Zurich so we’re going to be the taste testers of that and we got a little breakfast that we’ll show you in just a second all right time for our first It’s delicious I appreciate that it’s not as thick as like Angelina’s in Paris but it’s still super rich it’s delicious it’s really good I get the first bite i’ be waiting all trips these cracks What’s the inside marshmallow marshmallow oh so it’s been a rainy and cold day in Zurich and we found an indoor for Market which I was super excited about it’s at the main train station and so far we’ve had some really delicious cheesecake we’ve had mini waffles we have epinat and I think I’m
Going to try some butter chicken out We went to Adler Swiss kitchen for dinner and highly suggest making a reservation reservations can be made online or you can stop by the restaurant like we did and make a reservation in person both nights we walked by the line was out the door and it had good reviews online
We ordered cheese fondue and chocolate fondue and both were great but just a heads up this meal was on the pricier side totaling over 250 USD it’s a big bite oh it’s so choc wow I’m going to tell you guys some of my favorite things from each market starting with Rothenberg Rothenberg one
Of our favorite things that we did is go inside the Kathy wolfart store unfortunately you couldn’t film inside so we didn’t have any footage to show you guys and then my other favorite thing that we ate was um a sausage roll it’s a spiral sausage roll with a bun it
Had hot mustard on it but we didn’t get footage of that either but it was delicious moving on to number two is strawberg and strawberg for me was a quintessential Christmas Market it had all the sights and smells and foods that I was expecting uh one of my favorite
Things was drinking vincha Blanc when it was cold outside and I also love the cathedral as the backdrop to the Christmas Market it was like nothing I’d ever seen before um the only unfortunate thing I would say is um that even though there were lots of different Christmas
Markets through the city almost every Christmas Market was the same in regards to what food they were selling and what trinkets or gifts they were selling so I would have liked a little bit more variety um oh also another positive was our hotel our hotel was beautiful I
Really really enjoyed it number three comr was what I would expect Beauty and the Beast would feel like during Christmas time Comer had so many options for kids different activities to do they also had a little bit more of quality food which I could appreciate um it was
Very qu point and the slower Pace was very nice I thought especially for families there really wasn’t anything I disliked about colmer and last but not least was Zurich Zurich gives you all of the big city feels but if you stay in Oldtown it is still quaint and it gives
You great walkability to all of the markets we really enjoyed the singing tree and the variety of food that each market offers you’re constantly seeing different cultures of food you’re never eating the same things twice so that was really nice um unfortunately it rained for us the whole time we were in Zurich
So that made it a little bit of a downer on our trip but if it was a sunny day or no rain there’ be no complaints I hope you enjoyed the Christmas markets with us tomorrow we head to Finland where we’re going to be staying at Santa Claus
