Hack to decode French Wine Labels🍷
Wine labels can tell you far more about what’s in the bottle than just what meets the eye. However, knowing a few simple decoding hacks is key: Here are five things a French wine label will tell you-
1️⃣Who made it – Producer
2️⃣Where it comes from- Region or Appellation
3️⃣Which year were the grapes harvested to make the wine- Vintage
4️⃣Terms to convey the quality of the vineyard – Classifications
5️⃣How much alcohol it contains- ABV (Alcohol By Volume)
This information is not only key to buying wine according to your preference but it also tells you whether the wine offers you value for your money.
A wine label can also tell you
✅If it was bottled on the same estate where it was made- Mis en bouteille au chateau/domaine
✅The producer made the wine using their own grapes- Vigneron
Extra tip- If you see Méthode Champenoise written on a bottle of sparkling wine, you can be assured that the wine was made using exactly the same technique that is used to make Champagne.
