Recipe for how to cook a beef bourguignon – the perfect comfort food (fall/winter) meal!
Ingredients for 6 persons:
4 pounds / 2 kg. beef shoulder
1/3 pound / 150 gr. smoked, salted bacon
2 large onions
2 large carrots
3 cloves of garlic
1 bottle of Burgundy red wine (from Bourgogne / Burgundy in France)
Fresh thyme
2 bay leafs
all purpose flour (0.8 cups / 2 dl)
beef stock (1.5-2 cups 400-500 ml)
half a pound / 250 gr mushrooms
1/2 stick / 50 gr. butter + 1 clove of garlic (for frying mushrooms)
salt & pepper
Serve with homemade mashed potatoes and a nice French baguette
