Situated in Vila Madalena, this 110m² apartment underwent a partial transformation with a primary focus on the social area. Designed for a couple, one being French and the other Brazilian, with two young children, the residence was given a farmhouse-inspired makeover. This design concept incorporates historical architectural and decorative elements while radiating a warm, tranquil ambiance typical of rustic styles.
The clients were already familiar with the work of the design firm, having previously engaged them for a consultation on finishes and joinery during the construction of their farmhouse. This initial collaboration with the project’s architect served as a foundation for the decision to renovate their São Paulo apartment, prompting them to rehire the firm.
From the outset, the couple had a clear vision of imbuing the property with an urban farmhouse style. Their vision included functionality and rusticity infused with delicate elements, and a seamless connection throughout the social area. Accordingly, the new project addressed the residents’ needs, involving renovations in the service area, kitchen, and social spaces.
The apartment’s entrance door, sourced from Construverde, immediately sets a countryside tone, serving as the daily and guest welcome portal. The ceiling was stripped to reveal the beautifully aged slab, which was meticulously revitalized. A new lighting scheme was introduced in the social area, while the wooden flooring was preserved.
In the social area, all the existing furniture was replaced, achieving a perfect blend of romance and delicacy, incorporating fine details and punctuated colors that harmonize with the rustic farmhouse aesthetic. The custom-designed bookshelf behind the sofa embraced a lighter concept, allowing books and objects to take center stage. Delicate fabrics adorned the armchairs, reflecting the client’s romantic preferences. A bespoke iron display cabinet and dining table were exclusively crafted for this apartment.
The kitchen, a highlight of the project, underwent a complete transformation. A wall was removed to connect the dining room and service area, and a large frame was introduced to seamlessly merge the spaces. The choice of flooring played a pivotal role in enhancing the environment’s elegance and charm, blending industrial and artisanal elements, from raw to delicate. The team sought out companies that produced antique tiles with hexagonal designs and flower patterns. The end result surpassed the clients’ expectations.
A rustic concrete countertop was crafted on-site, offering a striking contrast. The front of the countertop and the light gray joinery featured neutral-toned hydraulic tiles, ensuring a harmonious color palette and giving due importance to the flooring.
The powder room was also graced with tiles sourced from old demolition sites, extending from floor to ceiling. The sink was discovered in Minas Gerais, courtesy of Paulo Amorin. Even the balcony floor underwent a complete revitalization while preserving its historical essence.
