….the three main restraints we face in vineyard fertilization with the #Basfoliar_Kelp (COMPO EXPERT)

Special thanks to Ms. Jessica Da Costa / Regional Open field Crop Manager for EMEA at COMPO EXPERT GROUP for the support!

JdC – “Hi, today, we are at SIVAL – ANGERS 2019, as part of the community”Keys my Crops” of Compo Expert, it is my pleasure to present you today; Laurent Fonteneau.
LF-Hi.

JdC- Laurent Fonteneau, can you explain to us a little bit about your role?
LF- I’m Laurent Fonteneau, in charge of the vineyard business, in SABOC, which, distributes all specific wine products in the Loire Valley region, and specifically to Amboise, on three main designations; Vouvray, Montlouis-sur-Loire, and Touraine, on the part Indre-et-Loire, and Loire-et-Cher.

JdC-Thank you. Laurent, can you please explain the three main constraints that you have today, in detail, within the scope of fertilization in vineyards?
LF -So, the three main restraints that we face in vineyard are:

– first, the level of assimilation of the nutrients, for a plant, insofar as most of the time the nutrients are added to the soil, and we have today, relatively, lack of knowledge about the plant’s ability to absorb nutrients.

– The second factor in question, the second restraint of winemakers is related to production. In the vineyard, we have a trunk disease problem that causes vine grapes to die, and so what are the solutions you can bring to fertilize the plant, and find solutions to increase the yield related to the loss of vines?

– And the third restraint is the mixture, possibly, products you can offer me compared to anti-mildew and anti-powdery-mildew, knowing that I, the winemaker, do not want to do more passages than ….or at least the least number of passages possible in the vineyard.

JdC-Thank you. Today, with regard to these three restraints, what solutions have you proposed, as a distributor?
LF-So, one of the solutions was a fertilization with the BASFOLIAR Kelp (member of the Basfoliar Umbrella Compo ), and the genesis of this product came following a climatic accident in June 2013, where all the vineyardshad been hammered by a hailstorm … In the month of June, then. And suddenly, I offered the winemakers an alternative solution with #Basfoliar_Kelp saying: here, I have a solution that allow you, in my opinion, to save you a few extra hectolitrescompared to this accident. Therefore, the genesis of this product came from there. And indeed, following the testingof several products carried-out at that time, I had the satisfaction, having made measurements in the field- and laboratory-basedenological tests, to measure the effectiveness of #Basfoliar_Kelp.

JdC-Thank you. From your perspective, what would be the competitive advantage that a product like #Basfoliar_Kelp, foliar shotapplied, has on vineyards?
LF-The first advantage is that I had the advantage of having the assurance of Compo, to have the mixture, and to have no problem of compatibility between products, and
the second advantage over other competing products, was also to have only Ecklonia maxima, which can play a vital role in compensating” millerandage” (incomplete development of the bunch) in vineyards, and, therefore, having an indirect effect of having efficiencies on the increase of yield.

JdC -Thank you so much!
LF-You’re welcome.
