As it is Albarino Day (1st August 2023) Wine-Searcher’s Wine Director, David Allen MW celebrates by tasting an aged example of Bodegas Argo de Bazan’s Granbazan’s Albariño Limousin Rias Bixas 2016. David was interested in tasting this wine, as he was hoping it would demonstrates Albariño’s ability to age really well.
Founded in 1981, Granbazan are a premium producer of Rias Biaxas wines located in the premium Salnes Valley sub region of Rias Baixas.
Granbzan have been pioneers of the production of top-quality Albariño, developing techniques such as pre-fermentation cold maceration, lees aging and ageing in French Oak barrels. Through the last four decades the estate has built and refined a complete range of wines, all with different styles, yet all coming from the Albariño grape variety.
